just smiled when the secretary told harrison ford how proud of him she was that he didn't bail out.

obama - i think he stays
W - stays (cheney... first one out! :p)
clinton - bails
bush i - bails
reagan - early reagan stays. last five years is asleep, doesn't know what happens
carter - bails
ford - bails
nixon - bails
lbj - bails
jfk - bails
ike - stays (er, maybe bails_
truman - stays
fdr - bails
hoover - bails
... most bail.

teddy stays
grant stays
lincoln stays

Taft stays, but mainly because he can't squeeze through the door to bail out of. Jackson stays and kills all of the highjackers, then lands the plane and slowly hunts down every living relative of every highjacker.

i think maybe most of the early guys stay (quincy adams may bail). they didn't have that "I'M too important" trait.

Buchanan literally does nothing, allows terrorists to land plane and take half the crew and supplies, figuring his replacement can get them back.

Carter tries to negotiate and is shot.

Cleveland is so honorable and reasonable they apologize and turn the plane back over to him.

Dubya believes he's staying, but in reality he's in a crib in the Oval Office wearing virtual reality glasses.

JFK lets Bobby handle the situation; bangs the stewardess.

Obama would only stay to apologize to the terrorists for the operation to capture the general; they would immediately execute him.

Ike would stay without a shadow of a doubt. He was a general, for crying out loud!

hmmm. i think obama doesn't think he's that important that he needs to get off. i also think if his daughters and wife were on he would stay. unlike clinton who the world revolves around (then, literally :p).

ike would have stayed, maybe. he was important during the war. by the time he was president, he knew he wasn't so much anymore. he was so old though, no kids with him. so maybe he would have thought he needed to get off... i could go either way there.

No way. (We were just at the Eisenhower Library in Abilene, so I'm Ike'd up.) Ike would've anticipated everybody's moves three moves ahead, had all the hijackers killed, and somehow when they landed the plane he'd be sitting on the tarmac in shirtsleeves having a drink, looking harmless. "What took you boys so long?" :D

41 was too important. he was a senator, ran the cia, and was president. i firmly believe that in this situation he WOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO STAY AND POSSIBLY DIE!! he had to get to safety.

he may have wanted to stay, but the adult in him would have told himself that he had to get to safety. no doubt in my mind.

Pilots are all on the Enemies list.....Nixon bails but manages to trip Kennedy on his way out the door.
Turns out the parachutes were made in Chicago so Kennedy had a few extra.

I think if he went down he'd have been killed, wouldn't he? My memory is that he actually bailed, and he may be the only president to have done that.

I don't know where my copy of Flyboys is to look it up, but I think he stayed long enough to try to give his guys a chance of bailing out.
