First half of season looks interesting with czech -18, tourney and now outdoor game.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Our first and only regular season games against Marian should be interesting.
Strange that this early weekend series may wind up being the most significant in the schedules for these rivals.
It's a shame we only get to see them once with the current divisional scheduling.

Yeah, it's strange that Adrian's opener might be for the MCHA title, right off the bat.

I think a loss this weekend hurts Marian's chances for the title more than it does Adrian's. I think a hot MSOE, LF or Lawrence could grab one or two from Marian. Those three are MUCH less likely to do the same against the veteran Adrian squad. I can't wait for Friday!

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

I guess what I was trying to say (and didn't do a very good job of it at all) was that if Marian comes in and does damage this weekend, and somehow comes out of this weekend ahead of Adrian in the standings, is that Adrian's destiny would not be in their own hands for the first time in a very long time. They would have to rely on help from someone else. If Adrian comes out with 3 or 4 points this weekend, it's more or less business as usual at Arrington for the rest of the season.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

There will be a lot of time for both teams to build their respective teams as the season progresses, and the results of this weekend should have less significance.

I expect the favourite will hold serve.

I have to agree with NorthernLite. The biggest win of the season will be the last one. We may see that the absence of one player turns into the appearance of a new superstar. The potential is always there.

....from the Adrian Marian game thread,....but I think it belongs here too:)

This will be the most confident Marian team that Adrian will have faced, given their strong 3-0 start.
Those who have had an opportunity to see the Sabres play this year, report a vastly improved and very fast team, which bodes well for them and for the conference.

Adrian havn't played yet, and there's always a little anxiety until they hit the ice.
Have they peaked...............or have they improved ? Well let's take a look.

Stansik will be missed as he is so steady in both ends of the rink.....but then we are 4 proven seniors deep on "D". .....Waller, Klaver, Roman, Hineman +

Fogal has been a solid goaltender, setting records that may never be broken , but on nights when he wasn't on his "A game".......there were no better alternatives.
Freshman Mike Morissette has a great resume and provides depth that Adrian have never had at this key position. +

Skelly, Miller, and Dahlinger, have put up the best offensive stats in the nation......FOR THREE YEARS. +

Houston Workman, Kuzyk, Towns, Watson..and the list goes on..all great players, seniors and leaders. +

Jordan Watts a DI transfer from RPI, and rookie Josh Cousineau a gifted sniper, are new faces joining last years rookie scoring sensation Zach Graham +

The supporting cast ....of players deep and committed +

The families and the fans that create a winning atmosphere at Arrington Rink +........or any rink.

From where I sit, that's a lot of +'s for the Adrian Bulldogs, and if I were Marian, I'd be worried..... I'd be very worried.

Drop the puck already !

Lots of plusses but I still think that another plus is Coach Fogarty who started this whole Adrian hockey thing in the first place 3 years ago. Let's face it he started with a whole new concept at Adrian - - - new sport, new team, new rink, etc.
The plus is this: he is still the coach!!

Final from Arrington

Adrian 7
Marian 3

The third goal, in the last minute of the 1st period, was the dagger.

This was not as close as the score indicated. One minute into the 3rd period, Adrian held a 7-0 lead, and Alex Bjerk had long been chased from the game. Adrian played a really nice game for about 48-50 minutes and then went to sleep. That can't happen tomorrow afternoon.

Jordan Watts had a hat trick in his first game for Adrian.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

Well it was the same song and dance at Arrington tonight. Adrian looked like the faster, stronger and more experienced team for about 48 - 50 minutes like Hammer said. The last 10 min they looked like they knew they had the game in hand and the relaxed a little. The penalties were a little disappointing to see and I hope that they can change that as the season progresses but the new comers to the team ie. Watts, Cousineau look like the will be great assets this season. One down and many to go, Go Bulldogs!

Wow, not the result I was expecting.
Didn't think Marian was gonna get rolled, that's for sure.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011..

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011..

I didn't expect it to go quite like that, either. I thought that if Adrian got two early goals, the game was theirs. Well, they got one really early one, then two late in the 1st. Adrian's 3rd goal came at just under 1:00 to go in the 1st. If this was a heavyweight title fight, the goal that put Adrian up 3-0 was the proverbial uppercut to the challenger's chin that sends him to the canvas, and Marian didn't get up after that. All the 3rd period goals were, quite frankly, window dressing. It was 6-0 after two, and Adrian added one in the 1st minute of the 3rd before Marian did anything.

I'm not crowning anyone yet, but........

Final from Arrington. No, it's not a typo.

Marian 5
Adrian 4

The streak is over.

All right. No dancing around it. It happened. The scoreboard doesn't lie. Marian outskated Adrian for about the last 50 minutes of the game. Adrian grabbed an early 2-0 lead, and everything seemed like a normal afternoon at Arrington. Marian poured in a shorthanded goal, and then a relatively late power play goal at the end of the 1st to tie it 2-2. This game changed on the shorthanded goal that got Marian on the board.

Marian played the better game. Marian deserved to win. Marian deserves all the credit for doing so. That's the story of this game. Plain and simple. No apologies. No excuses. No whining. No referee complaints. No alibis out of me.

I am still confident that Adrian will win their 4th straight MCHA crown. I still put my chips on Adrian inside conference play, no questions asked. However, Marian is one helluva team. It would actually surprise me if the MCHA Harris Cup final isn't Marian-Adrian. I am confident in saying that I saw the two best teams in the MCHA this weekend.

Adrian now has an adjustment to make. I suspect that they will.

P.S. I owe Matt Webb a beer.

You know, ACBulldog, what disappointed me, was the crowd's reaction right after the game, right after the clock hit 0:00. The place was silent except for the Marian celebration (and they deserved to celebrate). It was like it was a wake, like someone's dog got run over by the zamboni. My thought was, for God's sake, folks, this is a team that is 60-2 in regular season conference play over the past three years and change. We're fine. We're gonna be okay. It was bound to happen eventually. I said it in the lobby after the game. I don't see another MCHA team doing that this season. Lawrence scared the hell out of us in the MCHA tournament last year as well, but I think we'll handle them just fine.

We'll make our necessary adjustments and we'll go from there.

Re: Adrian Chapter IV: A Legacy of Firsts from the Class of 2011…..

I thought large number of fans did a nice job at the end of the game. Most of them seemed to stay just like they do after every game and gave the team a standing ovation when they circled up. Everyone knew this was going to happen sometime and Marian outplayed the Bulldogs and deserved to win. Adrian has a great team and I'm sure they will regroup from this setback. It just shows that the league is getting stronger each year and that Adrian will have to be ready for each and every game.

We are very proud of our Bulldog team and can't wait until they lace them up again for the next game. It's going to be an exciting season and a very sad one when that last home game takes place and we say goodbye to all those young men who have had a part in building such a successful program in such a short time.

GO BULLDOGS
