Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

Ive been trying to get a new job for a while now. I have a job now but it doesnt pay well, and is like the most basic entry type stuff in my field (aquaculture). I have applied to many locations and have been at least minimally qualified. Some I have not gotten interviews. One I had a phone interview but didnt get selected to go on. The next I was one of 3 selected for an in-person interview but didnt get it. Now I am applying for another that I'd really like to get. I am qualified for it. The guy that runs the hatchery sent an email to my old boss at Southern Illinois Univ. saying he would love to be able to hire and SIU grad (this guy also graduated from there) so I am hoping that helps.

I could use the good vibes and what not as jobs in this field that pay well and that I am qualified for are scarce. If I cant find something soon, I am afaid I may have to move back home with the folks as I can't really afford living on my own and the hours at my current place may get hard to come by as the summer comes on.

Saying a prayer that it all works out! Hang in there.

I would appreciate prayers for Sassy, my 6 month old Golden Retreiver. She will be in surgery in a few minutes. She swallowed a corn cobb holder - the plastic yellow handle things with 2 metal prongs.

Yikes! I hope everything went well?

Whew! Thanks for the prayers. She is fine. They were able to remove the holder and 3" piece of corn cobb without surgery. They did an endiscopy which allowed them to insert a light and lasso the stuff. It took a few hours and many tries to get it all out.

Did you get to keep the corn cob holder for the next time corn on the cob is served? ;)

Glad she's okay. Having had dogs who've eaten things they shouldn't (once a bit of mower chopped tennis ball, once just burrs), and having them go through surgery both times at roughly $1200 per, I know how serious it is. Although the bill for Sassy's hours long fishing expedition may even top that. It'd be nice if she learned her lesson, but nah, they never do.

Goldens always have to have something in their mouths. Mine generally has a stuffed animal in his, he'll even fall asleep with one in his mouth at night. Outside its anything he can get his teeth on, mostly sticks but he likes plastic soda bottles also

NO!

About $1,600. Surgery would have about tripled it. And you're right, they never do.

One of her favorite things to do is run around the yard picking up and throwing rocks. Goofy dog.

Good news: my dad has entered into an agreement with the mortgage company. He'll send them a payment each month, and we get to keep the house. His church is graciously helping, so that's a plus.

That being said, he needs to find a new job. he's a taxi driver and when the weather's bad, business is great. However, we've had good weather recently, and business is slow. He hasn't worked in a few weeks, and he'd rather **** and moan about the lack of money than get up, go to Michigan Works, and apply for jobs. I've told him to suck it up and apply at Wal-Mart, but he's not listening.

On the positive side, he's more understanding of my new hours and my need for sleep. So that's a plus.

That being said, I'm not going to stop looking for a new place to live. I really believe we'd be better off abandoning this place and moving into something smaller.

I think you would be better finding your own spot where you weren't constantly fighting against the tide to have an orderly life where you weren't always needing to convince someone to do the right thing.

Our yellow lab is the same way. Thankfully he doesn't eat socks and such things near as much as he did when he's younger. Glad to hear the surgery went well on the golden.

Trying to encourage relatives to take steps to be more sound and responsible financially isn't fun. I've been there. Glad to hear there's some positive things happening though. :)

been there as well. It isn't fun. Worse when they have lived their whole life with the pattern of unsound/irresponsible behavior and people always coming to the rescue. :(

Before I do that, I want to make sure I have a permanent job. This job at Wal-Mart is only temporary to start, and I'm not sure if they'll keep me around after this 120 day period is over.

Here's praying for that.
