My mom is going to surgery tomorrow (strictly, later today) to clear an intestinal blockage after non-surgical attempts failed. Positive thoughts appreciated.
Best wishes Craig. Hope all goes well for your mom.

Hope the surgery went well.

Hope the surgery went well.
So far, so good. The surgery itself was very quick, it was just an adhesion that needed to be cleared up and was apparently a lot easier than it could have been as the surgeon had booked the OR and set up the anaesthesia for longer. I haven't heard anything since then (she hadn't woken up when I last spoke to my dad), but I'll take 24 hrs plus without hearing anything as "no news is good news". I was supposed to get an update last night, but he wasn't in when I called and never got back to me, probably forgot or got in really late.

Edit: To update, I spoke to my dad tonight, and I was right that no news was good news. Recovery is proceeding normally. The remaining hurdle is for her digestive system to get going again, but he said she was starting to feel hungry, so I think that bodes well.

Got word friday night that my stepmom had a biopsy on her liver and it came back cancerous. Not sure how far along it is at this point. Hope to find out more soon. They'll be meeting Thursday with the doctors to discuss treatment options.

My dad was in a wreck this afternoon. So far what I understand is that his blood sugar was way high (500+) and he lost control of his truck as he entered our addition back home. He narrowly missed a parked car and apparently may have also been close to some people and ended up hitting a tree hard. He dosent even remember anything leading up to the accident. Thankfully he was not hurt other than some abrasions and bruises and he is in pain. Also thankfully he did not hit anyone else. Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for him and he will be more careful about his diet and keeping his blood sugar in check.

Yikes! Not sure who needs prayers more- him or the family! Prayers for you all.

My wife and I got a foster placement last week, with a very young one. Lots of challenges, opportunities, and joys. And a varying amount of sleep!

Bob

Thanks. No way of knowing how long. It's a long and complex process and the system and courts are overloaded, so we just will take it day by day.

Prayers appreciated of course.

Knowing my dad and I have fallen on hard times, and knowing that our financial situation is beyond repair, I'm not praying for a bailout, because that would be spiritually irresponsible. Rather, I'm praying, and asking for prayers that both of us find serenity in this situation and that we have the strength to fight back. The way I see it, my dad and I can lay down and take a beating, or we can rise out of our current misery and better our situation. "Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight..." (Nehemiah 4:14)

The 4 year old son of my friends Josh and Yvonne is currently fighting Leukodystrophy at Mayo in Rochester, MN. Josh's last two status updates.
Alexander's Disease has entered the grey area for Nicholas. The place where nobody knows anything.
It's between Nick and The Lord today.
The little guy could use all the prayers and good vibes he can get right now...
