Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

Thinking of you shirtless and bigmrg.

Update on my dad. So he was in the hosptial twice in about a week both for similar problems. From what I hear blood sugar issues may be one of the main culprits. When he has his next aneruysm check they will take another look at the gall bladder too. His primary physician was out of town during that time as well and I believe he is back so he may have been in to see him and talk with a doctor he knows and trusts.

No fun dealing with parents with financial issues. Prayers for you Bob and bigmrg74.

On-going prayers for you laker.

Amen to that. I sometimes wonder if imparting the wisdom of financial responsibility drains that knowledge from the brain of the person who imparts it. One parent appears to have taken on the characteristics of the adolescent me when the discussion was first approached. Closer inspection however, shows this must be in error as the other retained this knowledge after drumming it into me.

One thing I am thankful for is that my mom is a very fiscally sound person. Because of this she has healthy savings and what not built up which has allowed her to help me out with my fees for graduate school (between housing, car insurance, credit card debt, car loan, food/utilities and my meager stipend I do not have enough to pay my semester fees). Though I am not always the best at being fiscal, my mom has taught me to give purchases a lot of thought to really make sure I can afford it. This is another reason she is more willing to help me out. She knows how much I worry and think about my finances and knows that I am doing my best to manage. She has definetly taught me some valuable stuff. She always says that she is just glad she can afford to help out. She also says she does it because she is confident that one day I will have a great job and be making good money and that I will be able to help them with stuff financially in the future (IE paying for retirement home/medical stuff etc).

My mother had all these conversations with me. She now has the attitude that she is old and shouldn't have to worry about stuff anymore. She vacillates between worrying and saying w teef and spending what she doesn't have. My uncle and brother then rescue her because she belatedly worries about her finances and they feel bad she is worried. It makes me certifiable.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

Today, I got a call from my step-sister, saying my biological father is in an Alaskan hospital with sepsis and he's not looking too good right now. He came down with it on a cruise, was evacuated to Juneau, but they couldn't care for him there, so they sent him to Anchorage. To quote my sister, his organs are straining and they can't handle much more.

Thank you! And the news just gets worse: he's in a coma with liver damage. According to my step sister, the longer he stays in a coma, the less likely he's going to wake up. On top of all this, my step brother is unwilling to take care of my father's house, so I'm being asked to take a bus or plane to Vegas to manage the house while my father and step-mother are in Alaska. I always wanted to go to Vegas, but not this way... :(

Hang in there Shirtless. This sounds really hard. Praying for you some more! and for everyone involved.

I'll echo what leswp said. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you. Just got off the phone with my stepmom, and she told me to wait on planning a trip to Vegas, on the off chance he gets better. She told me to sit back and focus on my job hunt.

While I am ready to throw my hands up in the air, I also know this race will be over soon if I don't give up.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

lots and lots of prayers going out for your Dad, you and your family!

Thoughts are heading your way SB.

Prayers headed your way Bob. Hopefully everything works out for you and your family.
Thank you again. I'm taking the view that no news is good news, but I will call for an update later tonight.

Called to get an update: he's off the ventilator and his pneumonia is at a very low level, but he still hasn't woken up.

Talked to my brother tonight, and he kept asking what happens if Dad doesn't wake up, as well as asking of a potential funeral. Had to stress over and over that we can only take this one day at a time and it doesn't help to plan a funeral before we need to. :(

Everyone handles stress differently. Some people think they can bypass the pain of waiting by assuming the bad thing has happened and then planning on how to handle it. Painful to those who stay in the moment. Tell him if he is making plans you can't do that right now and don't want to talk about it.

Praying for you all Shirtless. THis sounds like a really rough time.

Re: A Thread for prayers, good vibes and what have you

My Mum needs some prayers. Her cat, companion extraodinaire, has been to the vet. 3 shots and a prescription later the vet is guarded. She let the cat go outside (after signing something that said she wouldn't) and now the vet fears a virus that he can't figure out because with it being outside the variables are too many to whittle down. She is scared of losing the cat and feeling guilty about letting it outside. Seems like a little thing with all the other stuff that has gone on in here but the cat gives her purpose and she struggles with depression to begin with. Any prayers would be appreciated.

Done.

And I have good news: my dad is now awake and fully conscious! I will call my stepmom later tonight for further details!
