A.I.C. Summer of 2014

Re: A.I.C. Summer of 2014

As a traditionalist, I hope AIC is still on the UConn schedule. They are the Huskies' oldest and most played opponent. I believe AIC was the first team UConn played when they began playing varsity hockey, and the first team they played in the D1 era, and AIC opened the "new" Freitas Forum. It would be a shame to lose that connection.

And all those wins.

We may be playing one game vs Clarkson, and I would then hope a second vs St. Lawrence.
Almost definitely a game vs Amherst at the Mass Mutual Center.

Then they will have three left, so I could see easily one going to UCONN. UCONN will have 12 OOC games?

I think that there will be a lot AHA teams licking their chops for continued games with UConn, now that the Huskies are OOC games.

Right, but I'm not sure how many slots are still available. The Huskies have Union, the NJ Tournament (2 games from Yale, Princeton, Merrimack) the Connecticut Holiday Tournament (2 games from QU, SHU, Union) Brown, Colorado College, RPI, Quinnipiac, so we'll see. I'd like to keep UConn's olderst opponent on the schedule. And the possibility of a win would be nice, too.

Re: A.I.C. Summer of 2014

I don't know about that since there's really not much benefit. Their PWR ranking really isn't going to move much from where it is today this season. In fact it'll probably go down since they'll have a full HE schedule. Winning games against them won't really increase an AHA PWR significantly, if at all. From a performance or even psychological standpoint I'd rather give up a hard fought game against BC or UM than beat Uconn.

I was not thinking PWR as much as perhaps a few more OOC wins for AHA teams, until UConn picks up their pace in Hockey East.

Re: A.I.C. Summer of 2014

We got a tough road for OOC wins
Dartmouth
U Mass Amherst
Union
Clarkson
and our last two games.

Re: A.I.C. Summer of 2014

Union, tough?

But, you beat UMass last year, right?

they outshot us pretty bad. I got a good feeling about the guys coming back, but I'm also hearing we are losing some players either early or just leaving. And you never know how well the new recruits are going to be.

I understand the push to have good students, but heck, if Union can combine the two, why can't AIC? We need to get to the point where we are getting players to commit earlier on, and not relying on the assistant coaches to pick out the diamonds in the rough.

Re: A.I.C. Summer of 2014

Ten years ago UConn had a 30-31-5 record vs. AIC. Always good games. I am guessing that UConn might have a slight advantage today, but not by much.

UCONN has made a pretty big separation in the last 10 years though, the current all time series is now 49-37-11 in favor of UCONN. So 19-6-6 over the last 10 years, including 13-0-3 in the last 16. Even though UCONN has clearly pulled away over the last 10 years, the series has still seen plenty of entertaining games over the past few years. I'm sure UCONN and AIC will still play each other here and there, just doubt you will see UCONN in the Olymipa often if ever.
