A Call to Arms.....

Re: A Call to Arms.....

Yeah, UND will be fine, but they're going to need teams that remain viable enough to be big enough draws to fill the Ralph on a nitely basis. Sioux fans are smart, they'll stop coming to games if it looks like UND is playing in a conference full of Minnesota-Crookston's.

Re: A Call to Arms.....

You're comparing the non-BT WCHA teams to Crookston?

Did you even think before you posted this?

Yes, isn't that what the perception of the average Joe Six-Pack in Grand Forks, Fargo and the rest of North Dakota going to be if you got a bunch of schools that don't get home dates with the Minnesota and Wisconsin?

I think you misunderstand the mindset of UND hockey fans.

If you take a school like Mankato, Lake St., Ferris St., etc..., college hockey revolves around, and depends upon, the Big 10 powers in hockey. Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan St.

Rightly or wrongly UND fans don't think that way. They think college hockey revolves around UND. You can take away our games with MN and Wisconsin and our conference affiliation with those programs. But you can't take away our 7 titles, the fact that each year a small school in a backwater state competes with the largest institutions in the country for a national title.

So long as the team wins, so long as the team remains a contender for national titles, 11,000 will continue to pass through the doors of the Ralph on Friday and Saturday night during the winter.

The fans will be unhappy if the series with MN disappears, because they get extra-jazzed for those games, but I'm not even sure that's going to be the case when the Big 10 teams go their separate ways.

I'm old enough to have been going to games back when Michigan, Michigan St., Notre Dame, etc..., abandoned the WCHA. Who needed them? Good luck and good riddance. We'll meet again. That was the reaction.
