Replacing traditional utility powerplants, not so much.
Gross refining margin ($/throughput barrel) (c) $ 14.33 $ 6.36
Manufacturing Cost before Depreciation and Amortization
Expense($/throughput bbl) (c) $ 5.22 $ 5.94
During the first quarter, the improved margin environment, more reliable refinery utilization, increased throughputs
Overview. Operating income for our refining segment increased by $472 million, or 279%, to $303 million during the 2011 Quarter as compared to the 2010 Quarter. The increase is primarily due to an improved margin environment and higher refinery throughput during the 2011 Quarter.
Refining Margins
Gross refining margin rose 147.2% year-over-year to $15.77 per barrel. In terms of different regions, refining margin was up approximately 170.6% in El Paso to $18.70 per barrel and up 29.0% in Four Corners to $19.70 per barrel.
Operating Expenses
Direct operating expenses in El Paso during the quarter averaged $5.91 per barrel, up 56.8% year over year, while costs in Four Corners decreased 11.1% from the year-ago period to $6.70 per barrel.

As the old expression went, "An army travels on its stomach." Supply chain has been the Achilles heel of many famous military campaigns, so reducing the front line troops' dependence on it is always a good thing.Yeah not a bad idea using solar power in the desert. Anything to reduce supply convoy and kickbacks to Taliban warlords would be a good thing.

Nice starcraft reference. You must construct additional pylons.
glad to see it dropping. its dropping every day it seems. Demand must be going down. Even though I don't have a real commute anymore, its nice not having 50 dollar fillups.
Just hit $3.39 yesterday. It's officially dropped by 12.5% from its peak.
So, yeah, unlike the panic spawned by the media and others...it ain't hitting $5 this summer. Considering it's predicted to keep dropping, we're more likely to see $2.99 than we are $4.01 at this rate.
We are still at ~$3.85 here in upstate NY. Although it has dropped from the high of about $4.05 earlier in the spring.
You must be down towards Ithaca... $3.69 up here.
All the speculators must have found something else to make money on. They'll be back jacking up the price soon enough.
Executing speculators should be a matter of civic pride.
