2nd Term Part X - A link to a fore gone conclusion

Re: 2nd Term Part X - A link to a fore gone conclusion

Would the Stars & Bars be an acceptable compromise?

I've always wondering how many people flying the Southern Cross would know what the actual CSA flag was if you showed it to them. Probably all of them, being the connoisseurs of southern culture that they claim to be.

Alabama's governor took the flag down because it lets him say this as a Republican and not get noticed.

Asked his reasons for taking it down and if it included what happened in Charleston last week, the governor said, "Yes, partially this is about that. This is the right thing to do. We are facing some major issues in this state regarding the budget and other matters that we need to deal with. This had the potential to become a major distraction as we go forward. I have taxes to raise, we have work to do. And it was my decision that the flag needed to come down."

Its good to see racial welfare was tops on the list for local citizens ;):

After the flags were removed, a protester carrying a Confederate flag showed up at the monument.

"If you don't change people's hearts, changing a flag won't do anything toward racism," said Mike Williams of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.

Which is why it's important for centrists, especially in the GOP, to move carefully. This is a chance to separate the sheep from the goats. There must be vast numbers of southern white conservatives who are every bit as small government, religious freedom, and even states' rights as they were yesterday but who also can put themselves in their black fellow citizens' shoes and think, "Yeah -- seeing something they hold akin to the Nazi flag when they go to the statehouse has got to sting. We're big enough to see that." And then there are large, though hopefully not nearly so vast, numbers of southern white conservatives who are going to go apesh-t over this, blame Obama, and buy a few more guns to prepare for the coming of the UN copters.

From what I've seen there are just as many local GOP as Democratic figures calling for the removal of confederate symbols from state flags, grounds, and license plates. This could be a moment of unity and healing for all Americans, and we haven't had many of those since the immediate aftermath of 9/11. This is something that large majorities of people seem to be agreeing on, regardless of their political identification.

So everybody be cool and don't blow it. Any time we can move the hands of the Second Civil War clock back a few minutes, we should do it.

A+

I completely agree. This whole flag thing is beyond idiotic. Take the dam thing down. It's like setting your Facebook profile picture as a selfie of you from 15 years ago where you were young and dumb and thought it would be funny to go in black face to a party. It only goes to remind everyone how effing stupid you are/were/etc. Except far worse.

Saw this interesting graphic on Slate. I didn't realize just how massive the slave trade was to central and south America. And some going up to Europe. I'm not sure what that's about. Of course any amount is bad.

Amazing graphic.

I want to know about the dots going from Brazil to Western Sahara there at the end.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. Especially if this idiot signed some sort of "code of conduct" agreement as a condition of his employment.

The company I work for was founded by a pair of Germans. If I post on Facebook that I work for a company run by the Nazis, and someone reports it to my boss or HR, I'm probably going to get fired.

On a larger note, this also serves as a great example of why people should consider not having a Facebook account. If he was just wearing these boxers around the house, instead of putting the pictures out on the Internet, he probably still has a jerb this morning.

Subject to consequences is why Freedom of speech is such an amazing amendment. Without it, the whole concept falls apart.

Did you see that guy in his shorts? Wish I hadn't. He's representing an organization that works for the people in order to save lives...and that's the way he reps himself? Frankly, I think the department would be pretty upset even if was posting like that with an American flag.

And yet, killing a teenager is OK? http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/.../16/press-conference-eaton-guilford/28801761/

What does that story have to do with being fired for violating the terms of your continued employment? You're really on a roll today, 'DUDE.

For what it's worth, that officer should have been prosecuted.

Corruption. That's what it shows. That, and what the domestic terrorists view as "important".

So, how's Common Hore treating your kids? The local school district newsletter published testing results for 2013-14 in local districts. NOT ONE elementary or middle school in the district had 50% pass ELA Common Core in ANY grade at ANY school. Math did slightly better, but not much. Science was actually pretty decent, but I'm not surprised, given the area. The NYS Commish has been trying to make excuses, but guess what: Numbers don't lie.

"No Facebook? He's a social outcast, he's not with the times...or he has something to hide. Fire him."
