2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

You know what? On second though, screw that. Anyone who has read even a paragraph about this guy knows that he was warned numerous times about letting his cattle graze on federal land. Warning after warning was (were? :o ) ignored and the government basically collected his cattle in lieu of payment. He's a crook and about as far from a "patriot" as you can get. Screw the supporters. They should have known better from the start. This guy shouldn't have passed even a once-over from a seasoned staff.

Correct. Which is what Stewart said on Monday when he skewered Hannity. Hannity decided to engage with Stewart and defend defending him. Stewart eviscerated Hannity on his show last night. AND THIS WAS ALL BEFORE THE SLAVERY REVEAL.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Interesting blurb I came accross on da internets...

"When the New York Times asked a few of deadbeat rancher Cliven Bundy's prominent supporters what they thought of his comments beginning "I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro" and concluding that maybe slavery was better for black people, Sen. Dean Heller's office responded by saying that Heller "completely disagrees with Mr. Bundy’s appalling and racist statements, and condemns them in the most strenuous way." By contrast, Sen. Rand Paul's office said Paul wasn't available for comment. That started the clock. How long would it take Rand Paul to condemn the idea that there's a serious discussion to be had about whether slavery or freedom is better?
We don't know exactly when a Times reporter called Paul's office with that question, but we know that Paul's eventual statement distancing himself from Bundy—"His remarks on race are offensive and I wholeheartedly disagree with him"—didn't come until Thursday morning, nearly 10 hours after the story went online and after Bundy's remarks were already drawing wide notice. So basically, Paul's disagreement is wholehearted, but not something that could be expressed the first time his office heard what Bundy said. Duly noted.

Some of Bundy's other prominent supporters made excuses, with conservative talk radio host Dana Loesch writing that "I hope no one is surprised that an old man rancher isn’t media-trained to express himself perfectly." As if there's a more perfect, media-friendly way to suggest that it's a shame that the Negro of today never learned to pick cotton like they would have under slavery"

Given Rand's libertarian background, of course he's not going to be in favor of Bundy's comments. This is someone looking for a story that simply doesn't/shouldn't exist. After all, what politician that currently holds a nationally exposed elected office (I won't speak to some state and country offices) is going speak in an affirmative way towards racism - let alone racism?

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Gotta laugh at the Repubs. Came out defending this Bundy rancher and the guy (Bundy) holds a press conference and goes into complete Derp Mode on slavery of all things. Hannity was one of his biggest defenders and Jon Stewart (this is before the slavery thing even) ate Hannity's lunch last night.

Gotta love the conservatives.

I loved when they showed a guy being interviewed and he said they were ready to get into a gunfight with the Feds and they would put women at the front of the line so the news would show federal officers shooting women...BRILLIANT!!

Also the shot of him with the flag after he denounced the federal government was genius!

It's about time someone says to hell with the commie PC bull-scheiße and speaks their mind. Yes, slavery is over. We have Dr. King's dream world today, and it's called the Internet. Ebbs and flows are a natural part of evolution. Bundy is a leader for freedom.

I'm going to actually be sad when it's illegal for the crazy bigots to say crazy bigoted things out loud without getting arrested. What fun would that be? Think of USCHO without Foxton going off the rails about the evils of religion once in a while. Boring.

Holder bails on speech to OKC police academy graduating class, citing "scheduling Issue.

Attorney General Eric Holder canceled a speech to a graduating class of police cadets in Oklahoma City on Thursday, after crowds of Oklahomans flocked to the ceremony to protest his appearance.

Protest organizers said Holder's planned speech to the law enforcement graduates was "inappropriate," and argued that the attorney general has failed to uphold the law himself.

OMFG, could this administration be any more embarrassingly juvenile?

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Obama will not go down as a top 1/3 president. And that's not because of the microscopic issues posted directly or indirectly about him on this thread (all of these things pale in comparison with the devastation of other administrations and in baling us out, Obama has been quite good).

Having said that, I predict a couple of things: 1) Clinton will not be the nominee 2) the GOP wins the white house next time...assuming things continue on their current track.

Now these might not have been the case for the passing of the boomers and all the minority demographic trends discussed in the past. But unfortunately, we have some very serious geopolitical issues thanks to the disasterous outcome that has become Putin. There are few cases where the GOP will be the right choice for international policy over the last 20 years. It appears we are reaching one. Its not that the GOPs policy would be right either. We just need 'a don't f with me' situation here as much as this might hurt the US' long term best interests in other ways including the risk of escalation. At this point, I could see myself going GOP for the first time for the reasons I mentioned.

I agree that people aren't taking Putin seriously enough, starting with our failed president. However, Hillary is twice the man Barry is and I can easily see her winning the next election. I saw an interesting clip from one of the last round of debates where Mitt put Putin forward as a real concern and Barry tried to laugh him off the stage with some buddy-buddy rhetoric that looks even more foolish considering everything that's happened since.

Outside of this issue, I have seen no other evidence that this has been a failed presidency...in fact, Obama resurrected this country from 2008. Period. And the GOP has been verbally attacking every country (including the French) for the last 30 years...so it doesn't surprise me that Mitt actually got one right.

I'd put a handful of GOP choices in the white house before Hillary as long as Putin is in the chair. I know as much as most Americans...that kind of Russian is a total Neanderthal and I don't see the needed respect given to the first 70 yo woman president.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Obama will go down in the middle 50%, on a sliding scale depending on your point of view. He didn't go far enough domestically and went too far internationally for the serious liberals, but most will still peg him somewhere around 15 out of 44. He went too far domestically and didn't go far enough internationally for a majority of conservatives, who will place him somewhere around 30-35 out of 44. Split the fringe difference to get the moderate majority, and he's about the 20-25th best POTUS - H.W. Bush/Ford/Jackson/Adams range. He could be in much worse company, including manic depressive James Buchanan (whose policies and wishy-washy nonsense were major contributors to the Civil War), or noted alcoholic and Confederate traitor Franklin Pierce. ;)

IF it's true, and I'm mixed as to whether or not I believe it, the CEO of the American Bankers Association is claiming that the DOJ has instructed them to shutdown accounts that are connected to people in industries it doesn't like. One industry allegedly listed as being so very nefarious - porn.

https://news.vice.com/articles/is-the-doj-forcing-banks-to-terminate-the-accounts-of-porn-stars

...

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed Thursday, American Banking Association CEO Frank Keating wrote that the Justice Department is “telling bankers to behave like policemen and judges.”

“Operation Choke Point is asking banks to identify customers who may be breaking the law or simply doing something government officials don’t like,” Keating wrote. “Banks must then ‘choke off’ those customers’ access to financial services, shutting down their accounts.”

Keating said the highly secretive operation was launched in early 2013. That’s when porn stars started to complain to the media that their bank accounts were being shut down without explanation.

And while the actors are quick to blame banks like Chase and Bank of America for discrimination, those institutions may in fact have no choice.

“If a bank doesn’t shut down a questionable account when directed to do so, Justice slaps the institution with a penalty for wrongdoing that may or may not have happened,” Keating wrote.

And bankers are just as pi**ed as porn stars.

...

And no, I don't normally read that site. I ended up there by way of someone's blog post, and it had more to do with the "choke off" line and porn stars in the same story.

Yeah...yeah. We know. ;)

This has been an increasingly used tool to parse justice for some time. Can't speak to this issue, but its a front page story on either Newsweek or US News in how the treasury department has been financially blacklisting quite a few Russian banks/organizations and people related to the Kremlin from using dollars since the whole Ukraine incident began.

Well, that's freaking BS. It will feed the anti-Obama rhetoric as well.
