Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Did you watch the ad? You know he's not really shooting down a gov't drone, right?
Wait.... really? He didn't shoot down an actual drone? That footage was faked?! Wow, that makes him so much smarter!

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

No. He shot down a drone, just it was not paid for by the U.S. taxpayers.
While being overly dramatic to most people east of I-29, he's making a very real point about the federal government using drones to track and "spy" on American citizens. Getting footage of these people before would have required a warrant to enter and search their lands, but now they use drones because the sky is public domain and in some convoluted way. It's federal overreach, using loopholes in the law to do some very invasive things.

Or a helicopter, or a really large boom crane, or a Cessna, or some other manned aircraft which surely the FBI, DEA, ATF, or any other federal agency never had access to...

Let's not act like drones are the first time police have pushed the limits of the 4th, 5th and 6th amendments.

Yes, those were options, but they were rarely used due to cost and lack of manpower. Now, however, because that marginal cost is so low the government has decided to employ aerial surveillance. I find it creepy that the gov't feels the need to watch the ranchers out west so closely.

I find it creepy that people who otherwise hate freeloaders get a hardon for ranchers who use public lands without paying for it. Apparently some freeloaders are more equal than others.

And I find it creepy that the US Govt owns around 80% of all lands some of the western states. Why does the gov't need all that land? It strangles out those ranchers from earning livings.

Oh those poor struggling cowboy ranchers, real true honest hard working 'mericans, having all THEIR land bought up by the evil gubmint so they can't make a living.

Probably because it was neither bought nor homestead (which, IIRC, is only still allowed in Alaska), so where does it go by default? It's less of a question of need and more of a question of desire. I wouldn't be surprised if it were possible to buy up land from the government for ranching or some other reason. Maybe it's just my small town mentality where one person owns basically half the hamlet's land.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Gotta laugh at the Repubs. Came out defending this Bundy rancher and the guy (Bundy) holds a press conference and goes into complete Derp Mode on slavery of all things. Hannity was one of his biggest defenders and Jon Stewart (this is before the slavery thing even) ate Hannity's lunch last night.

Gotta love the conservatives.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

Yeah I was wondering if Hannity was going to defend the guy's pro-slavery views.

Nice friends you cons have.

It will be interesting to see what Hannity does tonight. My guess is he avoids mentioning Stewart and Bundy altogether.

Re: 2nd Term Part VIII - The Thin Red Line

I saw that on my Google News feed. Amazing...

Doesn't Hannity, etc have a staff? As soon as this story broke shouldn't they have checked the old dude out just to make sure there wasn't something embarrassing out there before they decided to make him their patron saint of the week?

The slavery stuff he just talked about yesterday. After everyone was defending him. He has a bully pulpit now and he's using it.
