He can also try to make the seas retreat. There is only so much money in the budget.I like Obama's attitude. I wish he would go ahead and propose ambitious tax and spend programs to address homelessness, mental health outreach, food stamps. I don't have high hopes that he'll put them forward, or that they'd get anywhere if he did, but I wish.

Beyond that, profusely apologizing to Howard Dean and begging him to return to head the DNC seems like a real good idea for Obama to do, and if his price is sending
Rahm Emmanual to Gitmo its tough but fair. Make the deal.![]()

How is that tough?
The irony is that Obama was much less crony-driven than Clinton, but the Obama people that did crack the administration were much less effective. This is probably because at his heart Obama is a reformer who used politics as a method for gaining power while Clinton was a politician who used reform as a method for gaining power. We'll see where Hillary is.
Just out of curiosity, why is it assumed turning Election Day into a national holiday benefits Democratic candidates and hurts Republican candidates? Some sort of strange fantasy that the Republican "masters" will now be forced to release the "Democratic" slaves from their chains of bondage to let them vote?Since it's a given that nothing will happen for the next two years, the Democrats should concentrate on positive themes of believing that the country can still accomplish things. It will make a nice contrast to the sh1tstorm of pettiness, stupidity and cruelty that will come from the party of impeachment, creationism, and the Ryan budget.
They also better start working on more effective GOTV, beginning with making sure everybody has an ID and is registered. The voter suppression that will happen next time is going to make this year look like a model of democratic practice. No idea why they don't link arms and propose a national holiday for Election Day, just to force the GOP out in the open in opposing it. What on earth argument could they possibly come up with against it? Other than "but if people vote we'll lose!"?

In any event, the whole "election day" is going by the wayside. There will only be more and more early voting, electronic voting from your home or work, etc..., as we go forward. Election day will just turn into the day in which we count the votes previously cast.

Because poor people who work multiple jobs (1) are the people who most don't have the time to vote, and (2) vote overwhelmingly Democratic. They would be the people who would be helped the most by having a national holiday.
I thought they were the ones who are too lazy to work, suck at the gov't teat full time, and spend most of election day standing around the polling places waving clubs? Isn't it only Republicans who work for a living?
Republicans do not work, they only sit around collecting dividend checks and watching their stock portfolios grow in value.
