Most of us have been there. It's 2am, you've had one too many, and you're hungry. What to get for food?

McDonalds, Taco Bell, Perkins.... do they only have ****ty chain food where you live?

(The correct answer is "pizza". We also would've accepted "Jim's Steak-Out".)

Re: 2am Booze Munchies?

Let's see. I have never heard of Perkins or Taco John's, and it turns out the nearest ones are 45 miles and 274 miles away, respectively. McDonalds is the only one in walking distance, so I will pick that, despite the fact that I don't know if any of the four in walking distances are open at 2 AM. I do know that I am likely to get mugged on the way there.:)

Re: 2am Booze Munchies?

In college it was gas station food. The Kwik Trip on Stadium Road had awesome hot dogs, and the breakfast tornadoes ruled. Now it usually White Castle, sometimes Perkins.

Re: 2am Booze Munchies?

Perkins is hit or miss depending on who is managing that particular branch. The one in Houghton was a safe bet for a 2 AM breakfast, because the manager actually gave a rip. Kielbasa and eggs over easy was always my choice.

How sad. Perkins is great drunk food, if you want a sit-down place. Taco John's is a poor man's Taco Bell; that gives you an idea of what that place is.

And jmh: when you've been drinking, the yearning for crappy food usually outweighs any fine dining experiences. :p

It depends upon the Taco John's. The ones downtown in the skyway have these salsa bars, for lack of a better term, and do a pretty good job. #5 combo with chicken (meat & potato burrito), with a couple cups of the roasted chili salsa.

The one on 169 in the Nicollet County side of Mankato was alright. Usually we would just go the extra half mile north to Happy Chef, because it was even greasier.

Re: 2am Booze Munchies?

McDonald's breakfast for me. It's the one thing they do better than anyone else.

I've seen studies that say the Egg McMuffin is actually one of the most nutritious breakfasts out there, fast food or otherwise. Moderate calories, not too much fat, lots of protein from the egg.

And don't get me started on round eggs vs. folded eggs again, BRENT.

Re: 2am Booze Munchies?

Almost forgot - Grilled cheese sandwiches.

Good when sober, food of the gods when drunk.

Exactly. Different student orgs would sell these in the dorm lobbies on weekends at NMU and they'd make a freaking fortune.

I'd make a good argument for a McDonald's Double Cheeseburger, too.
Oddly enough, I sometimes go for baby carrots and ranch dip. I can't explain it, but I will.

Re: 2am Booze Munchies?

With the condition that the last time I had the 2 a.m. booze munchies was during the Carter administration, White Castle, for sure. It was the only place open all night in my town.
