2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

Speaking of Family Guy, Lois Griffin bringing up 9/11 is kind of what I'm expecting from Republicans as August turns into September.

I get you are angry. I'm angry too. I'm angry that Biden didn't run in 2016, and I'm angry that he didn't pass the torch so there could be a normal primary process in 2024. I'm angry that the republican party has been taken over by the MAGA wing. If the democrats don't win the senate majority because DSA candidates advanced through the primaries, then i'll be angry about that too.

You say the DSA platform is popular, but the messaging is poor. That sounds like you are saying that people would like it if they just understood it. Don't blame the voters if they don't like the platform. That's like the chef blaming the customer if they dont' like the meal.

Angry about Biden not running? In the decade since that election, I can honestly say I’ve never heard someone utter those words, other than maybe Biden himself. Who’d you vote for in 2016? I voted for Bernie in the primary and then put my blue MAGA hat on and VBNMW for Hilary in the general.

As for the bold and italicized, that is what he’s saying, and your analogy doesn’t work. People not only understand the DSA platform, they do like parts of it. Healthcare for all is incredibly popular. Aggressive taxation of the wealthy and corporations to fund public goods and infrastructure is incredibly popular. Abolish ICE is incredibly popular. Other parts, they don’t like as much, as you’ve pointed out in other posts. But, that’s not what your analogy is saying.
Honestly, I’m not even sure the messaging is poor. It’s more like the messengers are, outside of Muslims and trans athletes, considered some of the most vile scum living in the U.S.

I see you both and raise you. Buc-ee's.

Have since spread to OK, NM, and AZ.

No Buc-ees in Michigan yet, but in another year or so we're supposed to have 2 Sheetz (the Pennsyltucky Buc-ees) locations within 5 miles of my house in opposite directions.

Have not yet been to a Buc-ees, but watched a Youtube video on them last week. They essentially create their own Walmart Effect. It's such an attraction it brings a short-term boom to the town's economy, even in the hospitality industry as people will stay in hotels near them. And as they slowly drive out the other gas stations and restaurants in the area the novelty wares off and the hotels lose their boost too. And then the town is just a Buc-ees on the side of the highway.

Sounds about right. The Sheetz being built at 14 and Coolidge was a light industrial pushover and rezone. Whoever owns the BP across the street is probably shitting themselves.

Sheetz is nothing like Buc-ees.

I've seen Sheetz with 6 pumps. The smallest Buc-ees I have ever seen still had over 60. Sheetz is just another gas station and convenience store complex. Buc-ees is the fucking Great Pyramid of Giza.

Someday I'm going to get to a Bucees and I'm going to ask the manager if I can see electrical room. 60 pumps(really dispensers as pumps are in tanks) means several hundred conduits to run said pumps. Love to see how they organize that.

Angry might be a bit strong - but i do think if Biden had run in 2016m he would have won and then we would have never had Trump - so yeah, maybe in that regard i'm a bit angry.

2016 I voted for Clinton. On paper she was a great candidate, but just didn't have the charisma required and probably lost the "candidate you would most like to have a beer with" vote.

To your bold and italicized post - I'd say the more popular parts you reference healthcare for all, higher taxes on the wealthy etc are democrat policies (not just DSA). Abolish ICE is fashionable and ICE is a trainwreck right now but i predict over time/long term the favorability of that will go the way of "defund the police". (Cue Aparch and others telling me i am glad protesters got killed)
