Although only 14% of Michiganders are African-American, the community comprises close to a fifth of the state’s Democratic primary voters, and polls show Haley Stevens with a dramatic lead over Abdul El-Sayed among Black voters in Michigan. One recent poll shows 67% of Black Democrats supporting Stevens and only 21% supporting El-Sayed.

She has been heavily implying that Obama has endorsed her when he has not.

Newman will vote for Stevens if El-Sayed loses Tuesday. “I’m a tactical voter,” she said. Greenspon, in contrast, was torn.

He says he has “voted for the lesser evil” in the past — Hillary Clinton in 2016, Biden in 2020, Harris in 2024 — but is not sure if he can do it anymore. Many El-Sayed supporters, himself included, “will be devastated” if their candidate loses the primary, especially after the intensity and ugliness of the attacks on him from the Stevens campaign and the Democratic Party establishment.

I'd rather fight a Fascist as an enemy than depend on a Liberal to come through as an ally, but here we are. The Clinton-Tony Blair fake out has fucked us so hard it's almost impossible to get through the tangle of liberal bullshit anymore. Even if we do, the entire corporate media is going to fight every step of the way to stop us from endangering their oligarchy.

The only hope is the voters are SO pissed off that the same force of history against the decrepit, billionaire ruling class that spawned the MAGAts will also thrust the legitimate Left into power for (checks) the only time in US history except for that 100 days during FDR that saved America.

Take polls for what they are worth - but the last poll out on RCP shows Stevens in a better position than El Sayed to compete in the general election.

This year with so much wind at the democrats back it may not matter, but that is my other concern with the DSA platform, it may play well in places like New York etc, but if a DSA candidate wins the primary in a purple state, it will make it harder for the Democrats to win.

If the polls are true and AES wins by double digits tomorrow, I don’t know if it can be understated how terrible of a campaign Stevens ran. The last statewide progressive win in Michigan was Bernie in the ‘16 primary.

They got McMorrow to drop to make it a two-horse race, had everyone and their brother come out to endorse her, even those that said they wouldn’t endorse (though this is starting to look like a last minute panic move given bad internals) and has more money than anyone should need in a primary.
 
Whether she wins or loses the primary, Stevens is a terrible candidate. She has always been like this, she's just played it safe in her district by pandering to wealthy interest groups.

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make? That Trump is a terrible person? I agree!

Does that mean that you disagree that having sex with your cousin is kinda weird? (And i just looked - it seems Rudy G did indeed marry a cousin - and yes - weird).

I know nothing about her - but the few clips i have seen of her would lead me to believe she is not the type that will really get people excited etc. (From a charisma and speech delivery standpoint etc) - like the "candidate you would have a beer with" factor.

Again - with the presumed wind at the Democrats back this cycle it may not matter, but nominating DSA candidates in swing states may not do well long term)

Well it hasn't really been tried for any major offices yet, so there's pretty much only one way to find out.

You're correct that Stevens does not have any classical charisma. Her kind of politics is to have tea with Slotkin and Hillary Scholten while they slice-and-dice their voting and polling strategies and discuss which lobbyists they're milking for lunches this month.

If the weirdest thing they can find on Troy Jackson is that his partner is also his second cousin, they're going to have to try harder. I'll concede it's a bit odd in 2026, but it wasn't that long ago that we wouldn't even be having this discussion. In Rudy's case, it's just the icing on the cake of how much he's beclowned himself in the last 20 years.
