2026 Elections: To the Midterms and Beyond!

If those ads are about as soft as the ones they’re throwing at Peltola up here (Sullivan supports our veterans!) they aren’t going to do shit.
I believe some PAC has some Ads up that Susie has never seen before in her 30 years in the senate. The Website is something like Susansucks.com . I laughed when I saw it and went its about time someone played hardball.

Hannah Pingree wins the Democratic nomination, Bobby Charles the GOP. A Baldacci has lost a Maine election for the first time (ever?) and former Secretary of State Matt Dunlap will be the Democratic nominee for CD2.

Maine could be a completely Blue state for the first time.

Because there's a wave or because the red nominees suck extra hard this time?

Because the Democrats have a chance to win that senate seat for the first time since Watergate and second time since the Titanic. The candidates have been rotten but that hasn't stopped them from getting elected in CD2. I know Bruce Poliquin personally. He's a great guy but his politics are absolutely horrible.

Of course the Collins seat won't be a gimme, and the CD2 race between Dunlap and LePage will be tough. But CD1 and the gubernatorial race should be safe.

He knows something I don't. Dems gov candidate is a Nepo baby. That won't go over well for some including me. I sure the heck ain't voting for the repub, Bobby Charles. What a racist POS he is. 1st district congress is a lock for dems. 2nd district surely isn't. I Voted for Jordan Wood but I'd think he would be a long shot also against the Florida man Lepage who will get a lot of votes in the hinterlands. I'd like to think Platner can win but its non stop ads already on TV, radio, internet, flyers for Collins. Going to be over 300 million spent on that campaign alone. One thing that is against repubs though, its the economy stupid. Even magats will vote their wallet when the curtain is shut.

It won't be a cakewalk, sure, but this is the best chance for a Democratic sweep since forever.

Is Rick Bennett going to pull votes from Charles? I think thats likely if he stays in the race
Possible but with RCV it doesn't really matter. Hannah has to win on the first ballot or she'll lose (unless Bennett voters refuse to rank Charles, which would be karma)

At what point are the shitty politics of someone elected to public office seen as a reflection of their true character?

"He's a great dad." Cool. Go home and play with your grandkids. That would be better than continuing to help your ultra-rich donors steal even more from both the private market and the public till, or striving to disenfranchise half the electorate.

On the plus side, forcing them to spend $300m in Maine means they can't spend that money on other races, even if Collins does ultimately get a sixth term (*gag*).

I knew him before he got into politics. I was the assistant manager of our high school baseball team that ended up winning multiple championships. I knew nothing of his politics then. It was only after he got elected that I saw that yeah, he was a terrible person. So that contraction there "He's a great guy" was more of a "he was a great guy" than "he is a great guy." It is honestly difficult to process that it's the same person. Maybe he had a Fetterman incident we don't know about.

I read somewhere that the other repub gov candidates were not going to endorse Charles? We will see if thats true or not?
