The New York Democratic Party was more concerned with redistricting to get rid of a Progressive than trying to elect more Democrats. Had they done the basics the Democratic Party would still control the House of Representatives.

Of course Cuéllar is endorsed. They protect their own. Nothing new there. Not saying it’s a good thing.

The Democrats have a lot more constituencies to keep happy. Black and brown people aren’t flocking to Bernie Sanders’ type candidates- at least, not the older ones who are reliably voting. Leftists are still predominantly white…as a white man, I won’t claim to know how to fix that problem.

With the Maine primary only two weeks away, Graham Platner holds a dominant lead in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate following the withdrawal of Governor Janet Mills. Platner leads incumbent Republican Susan Collins in a general election matchup. Troy Jackson and Nirav Shah are tied in the race for the Democratic nomination for governor. On the Republican side, Robert Charles leads the field, followed by Jonathan Bush. No clear frontrunner has emerged in the race for the Democratic nomination for U.S. House in Maine's Second Congressional District, while most likely Republican voters are undecided on a GOP nominee for U.S. House in Maine's First District.

More Democrats come out for Susan Collins. US Rep Jake Auchincloss (D?-MA), Yemisi Egbewole, former advisor to President Biden and Melissa DeRosa, chief of staff for Andrew Cuomo (who tried to smear his sexual assault victims) are the latest. DeRosa saying she "will not cry" should Collins win. "It won't be a pickup to begin with."

But please, tell me more about how important it is to VBNMW. (Unless it's a Progressive)

I got rah-rah-rahed into donating to Sara Gideon in 2020. Not making that mistake again after the 9-pt beating she took.

We don't have to. We just add our voices.

The political process, unimpeded, will sort itself and find the sweet spot for attractive policies --> positive results --> winning elections --> attractive policies --> ...
Democracy approaches an efficient market in discovering the public will, as long as it is safe from corrupting influence. Our problem is the influence of wealth was not merely excused but sanctified by the Party of the Wealthy and their stooges. Meanwhile, the Party of the People was co-opted and neutered from responding, either softly through donor fawning or directly through flat out bribery. In either case, the result is two parties who serve the richest while the 99% get fuck all.

Democratic institutions are great amplifiers for the will of the people, and that will is obviously thwarted right now by big money. I would sink my energy into freeing up the political process from strangulation by the tiny fraction of the super wealthy who have hijacked it. Clear away the brush and then the woods will grow however they will, and neither you nor I can or should direct it. If that's hardcore Leftism, great. It may be much more mild. It might even be rightwing.

But it won't be the fascist plutocracy we have now blocking the public will -- that's what matters.

Talarico knows what he's doing. We may get a Fetterman or a Manchin or a Sinema, I know, I know. But if we can do this we swing a seat to our caucus on most things, we get more votes for the majority, and we deliver a huge psychological boost to liberals and the Left who are trapped in slave states.

Platner is up by 9 over Collins. Same deal with him.

Get those damn seats!

The alternatives are (A) take over the party, (B) start a third party, or (C) bitch and do nothing.

Now, personally, I'm a C man. But if you're different, you have two choices.
 
Ah, but Fascist plutocracy is preferable to Social Democracy. Democracy is too expensive. Just ask any Democrat who isn't on board with some form of universal health care. Better that people die because they're too poor to afford medicine. I mean, how are you going to pay for it? Just because every civilized society has figured it out is no reason we have to. After all, we're not civilized. And people like Miss Thundercat? Shouldn't exist anyway. Better if they get back in the closet, fled to Holland or took a header off the nearest skyscraper. And me? I'm not useful to the donor class anymore, so I should follow her off the skyscraper.

I tried A and B. For reasons stated before, it didn't work. And yes, we did start our own party. Yes, it failed spectacularly.

As soon as I'm able, I'm choosing (D) - go to Costa Rica, Panama or Ecuador and live a peaceful life away from all this garbage.

In limited circumstances. That already happens in many states for things like downtown improvement districts, which are basically glorified HOAs. The property owners are the members and voters.

I haven't seen the specifics of the Delaware case, but it wouldn't shock me if it involves something similar. It would shock me if the corporations get to vote for elected officials like mayor.

I did my civic duty this morning. For those of you with RCV on the ballot, I implore you to use it. We worked hard to get it and the Democratic Gubernatorial Primary is a good example of why. We have a deep bench of candidates; any are vastly superior to whatever troglodyte the GOP nominates.

I think getting RCV in play is a way to shift things over time...

As we get more and more candidates who are deeper left, it's not a concern about "splitting the vote".
