Penn State geared up for the first time since its milestone Frozen Four appearance Friday afternoon, and the departure of major contributors over the offseason.

There may not be a need to post this year with the coverage the team is getting.

At least the student newspaper is saying something, since Penn State is pretty bad at publicity for this team. They like to say they hope for bigger attendance numbers because of the Frozen Four season they had last year, and then they do a whole lot of nothing for keeping the team in the public eye, and lose all that Frozen Four momentum. How about some articles, videos, pre-game/post-game interviews, etc?

I don't know what to think yet - it almost feels like a sort of rebuilding phase for Penn State right now, with ten new players and so much talent lost to graduation. We'll have a better idea after this week's series against Ohio State, for sure.

Well, I understand your point of view. But, having two reporters at a Q and A session with Kampersal and a solid article for an exhibition is new territory for the program. Now, the program needs a creative social media content creator to get back to the level it was a couple of years ago. That student graduated and she took her social media creativity with her.

Ohio State is a tough opening. That program will be ready.

Kampersal has assembled a very good coaching staff.

My take is when a team is onboarding so many players, a team may need to tinker a bit to find synergies in lineup pairings. Expect lots of rolling lines to find out what exactly you have.

For anyone so inclined, all of last year's seniors will be at Pegula Ice Arena on Friday for an autograph session after the game. They're in town for the banner raising at Thursday's game, which hopefully BTN+ will be smart enough to broadcast.

I think either last year or two years ago was the first year of games being free, shame more people don't come out, I make it to about all but 4. Parking runs you $10 and naturally a hot dog being $6 fills in for the lack of paying at the door I suppose haha.

Women's hockey has been free admission for at least two years -- I think this a Pat Kraft change, other sports that used to have ticket fees are also now free: the only sports that currently charge for tickets are football, men's/women's basketball, wrestling, women's volleyball and men's hockey. We also make almost all of the games, we will be there tonight for the banner raising!

Unfortunately, Fantin is out for the first half of the season. Kampersal did a weekly press conference yesterday (no video posted as far as I can tell) but multiple outlets covered it including the Collegian and Onward State which was good to see.

Morgan Stickney was unreal tonight. What a game for the freshman!

Interesting game. No shame in losing in ot to OSU. The forwards were very active in blocking shots. It reminded me of the way St Lawrence played at some point. Pesky is okay at this point in the season.

I only caught the first period, and the first period of a season is never a good measure of a team, but "pesky" is a good word for it. They looked very much like a team with a young roster and a lot of freshmen, and that was to be expected. There was hustle, physicality, shot blocking, etc, all good things - now they just need to figure out who is working best with who to get more shots on net. That will come down the road eventually, and I love that Jeff Kampersal chose to start all these new faces against someone like Ohio State rather than some cupcake. I liked what I saw of Morgan Stickney in net, and from the stat sheet it looks like she had a good rest of the game...good stuff from a freshman goalie.

It was a great game and lots to learn from for the new players. Stickney was awesome in net. Strong crowd support with an excellent turnout for the student section and the band was there for the opener. Looking forward to this afternoon's game!

Stickney played great! She got the nerves out pretty quickly which is to be expected. She is very athletic with a quick glove. Will be interesting to see if they start stickney or Campbell. It will be interesting to see how OSU comes out later today.

Keller not with Outwater was an eyebrow raiser.
A big question that was answered was whether Stonehouse could do something without Roberts and Janecke being on her line and that question was answered quickly with a goal.
No reason to complain when this game went to ot.

It takes a lot of moxy to not crumple under the pressure of being outshot 2 or 3 to 1.

As far as the goalies there sure were a lot of number 1 tweets during the summer.

The coaches certainly didn't give it to her based on the exhibition game so in their mind the totality of the practices must have warranted the pick to start. And it worked out big time.

Outwater gives Penn State the lead 1-0 only to end up losing 2-1. Campbell gave up a PP goal in the first, no goals in the second and one in the third. Yes, PSU apparently has two goalies. Today the d were more active on blocks.

PSU is no pushover this year.
