2025 Poll thread

Timothy A

Let's go RED!
This week the USCHO poll is a bigger joke than ever before. UW gets taken to OT by the Tommies, TWSNBN should be #1. UM gets swept by Mankato and stays #3. Are you kidding me? Mankato (8-7-1) sweeps the rodents and they are only 15th? They are behind a St. Cloud team who is 5-10-1? St. Cloud has beaten Lindenwoodx2, UConn, St. Thomas and Bemidji and tied UW. Mankato has beaten Lindenwoodx2, RPI x2, St. Thomas, Bemidji, and UM2x and tied Bemidji.

The more correct top 15:

1 TWSNBN
2 UW
3 Cornell
4 UM
5 Penn St
6 UMD
7 NE
8 Q
9 UConn
10 Clarkson
11 Mankato
12 Brown
13 Colgate
14 Princeton
15 St. Cloud

real poll has 4 big ten teams at the top and it’s the first time Penn State has been in the top 5 I think? A bit of history…

This week is BONKERS! UW does NOT get all 20 first place votes. TWSNBN got 5. I'm not even going to lay out all logical reasoning why UW should get all the first place votes. Anyone not voting for UW is simply delusional and not fit to be a voter. This is insane. MN could make a case to get those 5 votes seeing as they have actually beaten UW, on the road to boot.

You might be looking at last week. It looks like they got all 20, per USCHO.com: https://www.uscho.com/rankings/d-i-womens-poll

So what's going to happen with the number 4 and 5 teams getting swept this weekend? Probably nothing LOL.

Yep - a JOKE. PSU loses a whole 2 points and stays #4 after getting 100% manhandled by the #2 team. They aren't lose to being in the same stratosphere as the top 2 teams in the country. Shots were 24-45 and 21-40. UMD gets hammered with a loss of 59 points and drops to 8th after losing in OT to a meh Hawvawd team and losing 3-1 to the previous #8 team in a pretty even game.

And who is close to being "in the same stratosphere as the top 2 teams" this season? Nobody is anywhere near Wisconsin and Ohio State. Minnesota is probably closest, so the poll gets that right at #3, and everyone else is everyone else. But UMD losing to Harvard and Quinnipiac is a worse showing than Penn State losing to Ohio State.

I do agree, though, that dropping UMD to #8 is way too harsh.

But Penn State record is so illegitimate playing those AHA teams night in night out

Overall the AHA is only slightly better than the NEWHA….
That was so ridiculous, I had to go through the schedules to see what the numbers are.

There have actually been fewer games between the two conferences than I expected to find; only four of the eight NEWHA teams have played any AHA teams this year.

But the overall won-loss record is AHA 9 wins, NEWHA 2 wins.

And those two wins were LIU beating Delaware, in what were not only Delaware's first two D1 games, but their first two women's hockey team games at any level.

(I hope I didn't miss any. Corrections always welcomed.)

-------------------

Adding, versus the other three conferences, the AHA has 16 wins, while the NEWHA has 2.
