South Sudan qualifies for the Olympics.

On Saturday, in the Philippine capital, Manila, the world’s youngest nation secured their first Olympic basketball berth after beating Angola 101-78 to clinch the lone FIBA Africa direct qualification spot at Paris 2024 .

Canada and the US qualify for men’s basketball by making the knockout round, ensuring they finish over Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. US got upset by Lithuania today, but that might’ve played to their favor as they now get to miss Canada, Slovenia, and Serbia until the finals.
 
With today’s results, Germany and Serbia have qualified for Europe for the Olympics and that solo does the confederation qualifiers.

France - Host
USA - Americas
Canada - Americas
Germany - Europe
Serbia - Europe
Japan - Asia
South Sudan - Africa
Australia - Oceania

Next year there will be four qualifier tournaments to determine the final spots.

I know South Korea and China were in jeopardy of losing their men’s hockey autobids for the winter games. But I haven’t heard of anyone not getting one. Helps they dumped baseball and softball, though there are always enough Americans with heritage to backfill a country’s roster for those sports.

Funny enough France came into this ranked #5 and got bounced in the group stage, so in a normal Olympics they would have to qualify through the prelim tournaments.
 
It would be spectacularly funny if they won the gold in basketball before they've won the Stanley cup again.

The Cook Islands? No. I’ve been there in recent years and I think you’re confusing it with a different place. Cooks are full of Kiwis
