2024-2025 Season - Providence College

Losing Machu to injury was pretty evident how the team play is affected this weekend. A) Hopefully he won't be out too much longer and B) Have to make the best of what's available in the lineup and tighten things up a bit to compensate.

Here comes the annual slide (of late) out of the NC$$ tournament. Terrible start to the new year. Hopefully they can right this latest slip soon.

Schedule is tough. Starting with the BC series last weekend, Providence has to play 11 straight games against teams in the top 10 in the pairwise. The league this year is crazy. :D

Disappointed in the outcome for sure. Borgiel played a terrific game until he missed catching a routine shot right at the end, no justice there at all. Need to give your goalie a little help though as we missed plenty of opportunities by shooting wide or over the net. Did score in the third during a scrum in front, but just after the whistle blew. It almost seemed like the whistle blew because we were coming too close to scoring and the refs were impatient that it was taking too long. Wish they would use the whistle when a puck is frozen against the boards for long periods of time instead of when it is next to the front of the net.

Team missed Trevor Connelly who was injured at the end of the first period on Friday. Did not see what happened, and as always, they don’t disclose these things. Hope it isn’t serious, but could not have come at a worse time.

Hey 91, you're not the new Zlax I hope? ;)

Oh no! Have I sunk that low? Remeber Hokydad? He LOVED me!
Just voicing my temporary frustration. Still so much love for my Friars but hoping it's not a thing like the Bills NEVER able to win the big game. ;):D:p

Well we did win the big game...once. It is time to do it again. I'm hopeful this might be the year. But, we cannot afford that slide you mentioned.

Listened to Nate the other night. At least past Maine weekend before we see Trevor back on the ice. Manchu may be sooner.

Opportunity still there to turn the losses around and climb back into the HE race.

Bad enough with UCONN in bball now ahead of PC in hockey really sucks, time to right the ship in hockey.

Don't know what to say anymore about these second half of season games. Another 1 point night losing the second point in a shootout where the Friars hit the cross bar twice.

Overall, I think UCONN had the better of the game and if not for Phillip this would not have gone to OT.

Friars continue to have issues getting out of their own way. Too many turnovers in their own zone, not covering opponents on rushes. UCONN had a number of 2 on 1 breakaways and an almost 2 on none in this one. They seemed much faster and were very good at finding open skaters.

Friars did have some tough luck with one UCONN goal coming from a deflection off Elger in front of Sevedback.

Going to be a huge crowd for a regular season college hockey game in Hartford at 3:30 today, hope the Friars can comeback and grab a road win but not feeling good about it.

UConn was very good and Svedeback was terrific as noted above. Based on Nate's comments after the game, both of their 3rd period goals deflected off of PC players, talk about bad bounces. Despite that, coming back to tie the game was gutsy and Gamache and Sawyer both stepped up nicely. The crossbar dings by Gamache and O'Reilly cost the extra shoot out point, difference between a bounce out and a bounce in is in the millimeters.

Another good crowd for the Friars, more home wins would help sustain that. Good luck this afternoon, I think the hockey gods owe us one!

What a nice away win, very resilient after UConn came back to tie it up from 3-0. Borgiel was really good, 2nd day in a row that our goalie gave up 3 but looked great doing it. This is just what the Dr. ordered, thanks hockey gods!

Friars have to be better at Schneider. The road record this year is great, the home, not so much. 2 home games next weekend against a top 3 HE team, would be a good start to the stretch run to get both. They don't have many home games to finish the year, only 3 after next weekend. (maybe that's a good thing :sneaky: )

Good weekend for PC coming away with 4 points against a tough UConn team. Shades of Friday but worse, with that 3 goal comeback to tie it, but getting that 5 minute power play helped, which is surprising since, in Connelly's absence, the power play doesn't have much flow to it. It's more a puckhandler-by-committee approach for the time being. Nice to see the boys come away with the tough road win yesterday. Thing is, they can compete with just about everybody in the conference, but they're not getting the wins to show for it. This tough stretch of games, then being without your top player, doesn't help but they have to find a way to get through it.

This weekend is when they absolutely have to break the Schneider jinx, against a good Maine team who I believe swept the Friars up at Alfond last year. Still have 3 tough games against BU coming up, two at Agganis and another with UML at home. Those 6 games will make or break this season. Merrimack will not be a pushover either, finish at Matthews closing with NU which should be a win. Would be nice to get Trevor back for the stretch run, but he needs to play under control when he returns, no more dumb penalties. Certainly lots of opportunities over the next 6 weeks to cement their case and move up in HE.

Speaking of dumb penalties, has PC been on a 5 minute penalty kill yet this year? It seems like they're better disciplined in-game to avoid those questionable hits that would merit such a penalty. I notice LOTS of slowing up to, at most, tap an opposing player on the back rather than finishing the check this year.

Looks like Machu will be back for the weekend and Connelly is a possibility based on Mark Divver’s comments after Tuesday's practice. In today’s promo video on X, his jersey shows up on the screen along with many others, not that it means anything about the lineup, (unless it does😁). Maine is a tough challenge, but taking advantage of home ice for a change will be important. Let’s go PC!

So much for taking advantage of home ice. 3 times with the lead 3 times giving up the lead. Another later period goal (first period with no one covering net in front), another shorty (only good thing is PC scored on that PP after) and 6 on 5 (caused by PC player throwing puck end of the ice for icing when he had plenty of room to just get it to red line or opposite blue line and not let Maine take out the goalie).

Friars can thank Philip to getting it to a shootout because Maine was all over them in the 3on3.

Friar shootout guys again were not very good, 3 straight stops trying for the 5 hole. Try something different.

Expect a loud Maine crowd tonight as they had quite a few last night and a bunch coming down on bus from up there today.

Will PC students show? The supposed sell out didn't happen for student appreciation night.

Hearing the band will not be there tonight, probably see a lot of Maine folks up there.

Do not expect Trevor until next weeks' BU games.

Guessing Borgeil gets the start in net for this one. Maybe O'Reilly is back in for Levens, unless he is hurt which I have not heard he is.

This is almost a must win to try to climb the ladder to 5th place. Merrimack and UMASS are close.

They certainly can play with the upper echelon but are not showing they can close the door for wins especially at home where Schneider has been a house of horrors these days.

Thought PC looked like the better team for much of the game and that when they scored after the short handed goal on the same power play that that was a sure sign that we were going to win. Then that ENG came at the 2 minute mark after we just could not get the puck out of the zone and pow, like a bad dream. We were lucky to survive the 3 X 3 and Svedeback held us in there, but as mentioned above, the shootout attempts were not very good.

Today is another day - maybe it will be ours.

Another day another disappointing result. Like so many Leaman teams this one struggles to score most nights especially at Schneider. This year Schneider has been unkind.

Maine fans (students mostly in section 109) took over the place. PC students just don't have it in them to support this team.

Last night's result cost them in NCAA terms and HE points. Just keep giving away opportunities. Only 3 more home games and maybe that is a good thing.

The PP is sooooo bad, get not just one but two 5 minute PPs and they get no goals. The first one they had maybe 2 shots. Right now they are in 7th place in HE but 6th in PWR, amazing to see.

So opportunities left to move up but also to move down, 3 with BU (2 on the road) , 2 with Merrimack, (home and home) 1 with Lowell (home) and 1 with NU (last game at Matthews)

Phillip had another good game last night. Friars had chances to close it out before Maine had the straight on open shot from Makar to beat Phillip but come up empty.
