The Haslam family, owners of the Cleveland Browns and Columbus Crew, are hosting an a fundraiser in Columbus for Republican JD Vance tomorrow.

The supporters of the Columbus Crew are hosting a fundraiser for Democrat Tim Ryan on the same day.

The Haslam family is a bunch of rich oil men (Pilot Flying-J owners) from eastern Tennessee. I met Jimmy a handful of times through my work a decade or so back. This news doesn’t surprise me at all. Fuck ‘em and fuck JD Vance. Unfortunately, I think Vance still wins.

I spoke too soon about not seeing any anti-abortion amendment commercials. There’s a new one out by the same group with the same terrible acting.

This one says that it will remove 40 laws related to abortion, including how late (except they don’t mention the amendment would still allow for a viability restriction), that it must be performed by a doctor, and that it would remove a parental
consent law, apparently setting up some doomsday scenario where a minor is going to get a third trimester abortion from a carpenter.

They need a 75% vote to change it.

Technically they also have the ability to take up BIs and put them to a floor vote prior to the general election. If they pass it as written, it comes off the ballot. There was speculation they'd do that with pot in 2018 to get it off the ballot and discourage turnout, but enough GQPers were opposed to legalizing weed at all that they didn't do it (and arguably shot themselves in the foot). No way they will do it with the reproductive freedom BI when NO EXCEPTIONS is their candidate for gov.

Combat Vet My Azz...

WASHINGTON (AP) — Campaigning for a northwestern Ohio congressional seat, Republican J.R. Majewski presents himself as an Air Force combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, once describing “tough” conditions including a lack of running water that forced him to go more than 40 days without a shower.

Military documents obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request tell a different story.

They indicate Majewski never deployed to Afghanistan but instead completed a six-month stint helping to load planes at an air base in Qatar, a longtime U.S. ally that is a safe distance from the fighting.

Majewski’s account of his time in the military is just one aspect of his biography that is suspect. His post-military career has been defined by exaggerations, conspiracy theories, talk of violent action against the U.S. government and occasional financial duress.

Some re-working of Marcy Kaptur's district has put her in front of more red voters than before and this district is far from a run-away, easy win for her. In the past we might not be worried about her seat but in 2022 we're worried enough she is getting more of our efforts than before. I am hopeful she still wins, but it is not going to be anywhere near her recent landslide elections.

But does he bend the knee to Trump? That's all that matters.

I'm sure your question is rhetorical, but in case there is any confusion, he not only bends the knee to trump, he does so with an open mouth and a willing look in his eyes. He's an election denier, and in the past has spouted all sorts of support for the various Qanon garbage.

And to me he still looks like he routinely goes 40 days without a shower.

Reading Friday Night Lights and came across this passage. Do a Find and Replace on the names and the same thing could have been written 25-30 years after the book came out.

People liked hearing that Texas was back, that they were tough and could take it and were up on their feet again. Fact and fiction merged. They liked George Bush in the same way they absolutely worshiped Reagan, not because of the type America that Reagan actually created for them but because of the type of America he so vividly imagined. As Tony Chavez pointed out, it was an amazing illusion, as contradictory as Reagan himself becoming the great promoter of the family despite his own life as a divorc? and a father whose children hated him, as contradictory as Bush's passing himself off as a down-to-earth Texan despite an upbringing in the ultra-rich ozone of Greenwich, Connecticut, followed by sojourns at the equally elite Andover and Yale. There were more cheers, more frantic wavings of tiny flags.

538’s model had the Senate slip a point down to 70-30, but for the first time the House has crossed the 30% mark at a 31-69 chance now.

US Rep candidate from Michigan advocates for the removal of allowing women to vote.

The hypocrisy is strong with this one. I bet if someone walked up to him and told him that Black people are intellectually inferior and should not be allowed to vote he'd feel like punching them right in the throat (and they'd deserve it if they really felt that way).

Didn't this district used to be a completely safe one for republicans? Is this chucklehead gonna find his way to Washington via the voters?

It was a solid red. After redistricting it became a Biden-majority toss-up. Now that they dumped West Michigan’s favorite grandson in the primary because he had some semblance of principles voting for impeachment, it should go blue.

MI has a proposal to expand voting access on the ballot.

Today, I got a spam text from the MI GQP claiming "murderers and rapists will get the right to vote and elections will no longer be free and fair! RABBLE!"

Not sure which is worse - that, or the "sleepless" Tim Ryan emails the DNC was sending out yesterday to beg for $$$.
