2022-23 ECAC Hockey -- Contenders everywhere

........
I think the Regular season top 5 in the ECAC WILL BE COLGATE #1 followed in no particular order by Quinnipiac, Cornell, Yale and Princeton (Fillier back really elevates them). Clarkson, SLU or Harvard could sneak into the top 5 (maybe 4th or 5th). I will also take Colgate to be a repeat ECAC playoff champion.

Adjusted my previous post.

First weekend of league play:

Clarkson and SLU sweep RPI and Union allowing 1 goal total in the 4 games.
Quinny sweeps Cornell and Colgate allowing 1 goal in the 2 games while scoring 7 (including 3 ENG's).
Prinnny loses to Colgate and Cornell
Yale and Brown sweeps Harvard and Dartmouth

Not sure how much we really learned from the first weekend. With the Ivies starting so late, these teams will look different in 10 games or so. No doubt, Quinnipiac is the team to beat at this point. In many of the games, a bounce here or there would have changed the result. Looking forward to a larger sample size with the ECAC.

Union and Brown have looked very good to start the season. RPI and Dartmouth haven't exactly looked bad either. Would love to see Union crash the ECAC tournament.

Yes, Union comes up with a tie against Harvard and a come from behind win against Dartmouth. RPI had a sloppy game in a loss to Dartmouth, then outplayed Harvard but settled for a tie today.

Cornell gets 8 goals on 21 SOG against Clarkson. OUCH
Cornell 8 Clarkson 1 Final.

It was a prank. https://imgur.com/a/mGaoiWY

Yale came out of the gate with the big win over Qpac and followed it up with the win over a tough Princeton team. I don't think you can underestimate them. The ECAC is the hardest league to win and I'm sure there will be a lot of ebbs and flows, but right now, Yale, Colgate, Qpac and Cornell all seem to be firing.

I wouldn’t say that RPI outplayed Harvard. More like Harvard gave the game away by taking stupid penalties especially the two near the end of the game which allowed RPI to tie it up and send it into overtime.

After watching Harvard give away two potential wins this weekend, I’m fairly certain that they are going to finish at the bottom of the conference. They are not a very good skating team, they take dumb penalties and their D has major issues head manning the puck. And they have yet to score a power-play goal. Ouch.

Sometimes taking stupid penalties means you’re being outplayed. I do agree we seem to be heading cellarwards. Now after losing to Brown and scrambling to salvage ties at Union and RPI this team faces Colgate, Cornell and UMD ----- Colgate, Cornell and UMD. Somehow it doesn’t seem fair.

(We should probably take all Harvard discussion henceforth to the Harvard thread, where our dirty laundry will be much less on display.)

What is going on with Princeton? They have a ton of talent on the team and seem like they are underachieving so far this season. Granted, a lot of their talent is young, but Fillier is nonexistent.

For Clarkson, the win over Dartmouth, in my opinion, was expected, but the nice surprise was the 5 goal win over Harvard. Bloomer was able to spoil that shutout at the end, which had to be a hard pill to swallow for Pasiechnyk and the Clarkson bench.

The near bottom of the league is almost as interesting as the top. Brown has played some serious contests, and Union’s 4-1 defeat of Princeton was its first against the Tigers in eight years, and undoubtedly a program high. Outshot 57-15 and going 8-8 on the PK (!), all Union goals, except the ENG (a shortie), were 5x5, November’s ECAC rookie of the month (Walsh) scoring one of them. A sophomore (Matsoukas) made those 56 saves.

Union @ Brown tonight
