2022 - 2023 Season BOSTON COLLEGE

Tough loss, just didn't get the puck luck last night. Benson played great, kept them in the game when Merrimack was controlling the play. Weird season for sure, this team was the opposite of consistent

Have a big class coming in, looking at 4 possible 1st rounders in the class with Smith, Leonard, Perrault and Fowler. Fowler will be the most interesting one. He was 7th among North American goaltenders on the midterm central scouting list but has been incredible in the 2nd half of the year. He could be a late first rounder if a team really likes him but will most likely be a 2nd/3rd round pick. He has a .935 save pct since December 1st, and a .942 save pct since January 1st. He's just getting better and better

Senior Departures: Marshall Warren, Cam Burke, Chris O'Neill, Liam Izyk, Mitch Benson
Expected Early Departures: Cutter Gauthier
Possible Early Departures: Nikita Nesterenko, Trevor Kuntar, Eamon Powell, Colby Ambrosio
- Will be interesting to see what happens with the group of juniors. If they all come back, next years team could be really good, reminiscent of the 2019-2020 team when they 2 really good lines with Cotton, Mattila and Hutsko along with Boldy, Newhook and Hardman
- Fowler will be goalie #1 from the start next year
- I still worry about defense next year, Fortesque and Minnetian might see big minutes as freshmen

Another painful loss, they played great, did everything but score. Ironic that they were shut out in first and last games of the year. Too many one goal games and shoot out losses. Thanks to the seniors, particularly Marshall Warren, 4 year guy who really improved along the way. Terrific representative of the University. Best of luck to him.

Gauthier could use another year at BC for his development, but I do not expect him to be back.

None of the juniors would be well served by leaving. None of them would be ready for the next level. However, that hasn't stopped players in the past. To this day, I think Adam Gilmour must have been smoking crack to not come back after the 2016 season, but that didn't stop him.

If the juniors all come back (which they should), and all of the incoming freshman actually show up (hopefully), then BC should have something cooking next year. If somehow they can convince Gauthier to come back for one more year, then they REALLY could have something.

Ya I think Gauhtier should come back as well, I always think a player should truly dominate a level before they make the jump but he was pretty open about wanting to be a 1 and done.

I completely agree with you on the juniors, none of them are ready but as you brought up with Gilmour and I think Sanford could’ve used another year as well. The Gilmour example is why I will never be surprised if a 3rd or 4th rounder gets talked into leaving early by an agent or team

A bird in the hand and all that? Can’t really blame someone for getting some money behind them. I think in a lot of cases the marginal guys weren’t going to make it either way.

Christian O'Neill had a glorious chance where he panicked and shot the puck too soon. Could have walked in even further. But that's because he's not a scorer. In the first OT is where BC could have won it. Some great chances and Ollas was shaky. Gauthier clangs the post and then ultimately lose it on a bad goal.

Nesterenko-Gauthier-Gasseau
Perreault-Smith-Leonard
Jellvik-Kuntar-Ambrosio
Vote-Posma-Joyce

Gustafsson-E. Powell
Hreschuk-Leddy
S. Powell/Fortescue-Minnetian
Alami

Fowler

The above is a good hockey team and the exact mix you are looking for with upperclassmen and freshmen. Just have to wait on a few guys. The flight risks to me are obviously Gauthier but also Nesterenko, Kuntar and E. Powell.

Finally, I really don't see a need for a grad transfer unless that's to fill in early departures. I suppose Henry Wilder could look to move on if he's gotten his degree. Kid has barely played at all, maybe there's a home somewhere for him in Atlantic Hockey or maybe he just rides it out here behind Fowler. I don't see any glaring issues with the potential defense. In most games they did a good job of keeping shot totals down and I think with the added experience they will tighten it up a bit. I would expect a Gauthier decision fairly quickly. He was very good but it's not like he had a season like Eichel/Fantilli. There is room for growth at the college level so what is the rush for the Flyers? I do not see him stepping into their lineup next season and having a significant impact.

I’m with you on the transfer market unless someone really high end becomes available on defense or there are some surprise early departures. I do think Warren graduating will leave a hole, I don’t know if they have someone on the roster or a recruit who fills his void

As for Gauthier, I definitely think another year would help him the same way it did with Boldy. Especially with how much of a shit show the Flyers are right now, I think he’s better off spending another year at BC to let the dust settle there. Torts is very hot or cold with rookies, if he is on the wrong side of him, he’ll never see the ice there, that’s if Torts is there next year. The obvious thing is him saying even before landing on campus he wanted to be a 1 and done, I haven’t heard anything different

From recent experience with similar situation at BU I know we always say they could use another year of college but as a high end talent kid I don’t think that is valued over getting any NHL time at all. Hard to believe that the slog of HE play of late is going to make a higher end talent better. Same thing was said about Farrabee, Tzachuk and Zegras all ended up hitting the ground running with weaker NHL franchises. Flyers having issues actually makes it a better opportunity. Gauthier looks as ready as any of the above and is a stronger body type than all but Tzachuk. Hutson being a smallish defenseman may exclude from the above thoughts at-least I hope

Why isn't Warren coming back? He has the extra Covid year available to him. If he doesn't think he's getting a good contract anywhere, might as well get a free masters degree.

Gilmour's decision was laughable, he is probably skating in the beer league this year. Sanford has his name on the Cup so it turned out well for him. Good for him. Helleson and Hardeman and Hutsko are all playing in the minors. There are a lot of factors that come into play and it is not just talent that decides. If you spend too long in the minors then you get labeled and it is hard to shake the label. All these guys should come back because they are not ready for the NHL but if they don't mind riding the bus to Utica then good luck and have fun. I would love it if Warren would come back, I think he a terrific college defensemen. Agree please give up on the waiver wire, it just has not worked for teams like BC. It was good for Merrimack, they picked up 5 guys this year, three are 24 or 25. It is the state of college hockey these days so teams who do not have elite talent need the new vets and build around them. Merrimack was picked 8th overall in the league and they surprised everyone because of the players they picked up on the waiver wire. Agree with JD on O'Neill, he has to put that chance on net, I am sure he replayed that one a few times on the bus ride home.

One area that needs a lot of improvement is the PK. No where to go but up next season.

The depth next year will help since it is a very good recruiting class

Holy Cross knocks off RIT. Most wins for them since 2015-2016. Riga is doing a good job there. With their women's team already in Hockey East will they ever commit to a real rink? Or is the interest just not there? I've been wanting Hockey East to add a 12th team as it's better for scheduling, whether that's Sacred Heart or Holy Cross. I know we used to speculate on Quinnipiac but really no reason for them to leave the ECAC.

Andres and Izyk in the portal.

No surprise there, I’d expect a few more to enter. Brown’s first offseason to retool/restructure the roster. I’d expect a couple transfers to come in, particularly on defense to sure up depth. I don’t think they have anyone on the roster to fill Warren’s shoes. We’ll see what kind of impact Fortesque and Minnesotan can bring but I don’t expect either of them to be a #1 or #2 defenseman right away. Would love to see them add Luke Krys from Brown but my gut says he ends up at BU where his brother and dad played

Is next year the last year of the COVID exception, I hope so. Best of luck to them, I am sure they will find spots but it will likely be a level below HE. I am guessing that Andres wishes he did it this year. Casey Carreau played for Niagara this past year and was the leading scorer.

Oh wow good catch on Carreau. Didn't know he ended up there. Not sure on the extra COVID year but the Grad year is still very much a thing. So 5 year players will still be a thing going forward. You just won't see any 6 year players lol.
