2021-22 UVM Catamounts: Cats Gone Global

Title referring to the sudden European turn of our incoming class. Hopefully this season we can push on, last season was a punt IMO, this one is the first *real* Woodcroft season.
 
That poll is such a joke. Did they look at UVM's offseason recruiting?!? Schulman took Woodcroft over Ben Barr for a reason. The #1 being that Jeff isn't stupid. Todd is a very well-respected NHL coach who has pretty much coached / broke down film as a video coach / scouted everything in the game -- and so many international credentials = many coming to Burlington this year! Ass't Coach for Team Sweden '22 at the Olympics for a reason. Do you think Albie O'Connell is being asked to coach anywhere?? I don't think so. The future is bright in Catamount Country and we're not finishing last in Hockey East. You heard it here first :)

I like the optimism, but i think it'll be a struggle at least to start. So many new pieces and this program is essentially getting a reset, but I like what I've seen/heard from/about Todd so far.

I wouldn't be shocked if we *do* finish last, but I think we'll at least be competitive.
 
WINTER 2021 FAN & VISITOR POLICY
UVM Athletics is excited to welcome fans back to Gutterson Fieldhouse this year. The University of Vermont is now requiring anyone in a campus building to wear a face covering - regardless of vaccination status. The policy went into effect on August 5 to aid in protecting our community from the spread of COVID-19.

In order to ensure the safety of students, staff and the community, UVM is now also expecting that all vaccine eligible visitors to campus, including fans attending athletic events, will be fully vaccinated.

Due to the ongoing health and safety protocols concessions will be closed for the time being. No outside food will be permitted but fans are allowed to bring a reusable water bottle.

I get to some extent why we're picked dead last -- a bunch of really bad seasons, stacked one on top of the other; new coach; new goalie; etc. -- but I agree, there's no effin way we're finishing last. Just not gonna happen. I'd bet my left pinky finger on it. Go Cats.
 
I'm very much looking forward to watching some entertaining hockey at the Gut this season. I think we will see UVM playing a much faster, more open style of hockey. Figure it is at least a 3 year process to transition the program to Woodcroft's vision. And last year has a COVID asterisk next to if for the entire league.

Also some news from last night, another European commit coming in, Ralfs Bergmanis. Latvian defender from Sioux City (USHL). Looks like a next season guy.

Fun game to start. Resilience is a good habit to have early, so coming back in the preseason game is nice.

Babichuk, Stucker, Buyalsky were probably my favorites of the new guys.
 
Babichuk looks like a great add to this team. They needed to add some experience and talent on D and it seems like they've done it. Also, I think Bouquot is going to have a big year.

Wish this team had scheduled another exhibition game. Lots of new players need who need reps before next week. The line chart last night had 7 lines of forwards:eek:. Would've been cool to see a UVM vs. Norwich game to get some more practice.
 
What a great way to start the season being back at Gutterson live to watch the Cats come back from a 2-0 deficit for the victory. Random thoughts:

- Very much a young team with a lot of upside that is going to be fun to watch.
- Love that the wings are releasing down the ice more when breaking out.
- Good puck support although there were a lot of pucks bouncing over sticks. I suspect the team will be working on passing the puck to each other rather than shooting it at each other
- I think UVM is going to miss Jeff Hill
- Not sure what happened that gave UVM the delay of game penalty
- Love that upper classmen are transferring to UVM. Speaks volumes about the coaching staff
- The new score board is really great. Need to get used to watching the replays on it though.
- Something clicked between the second and third period - it was a different team playing. Don't know if it was first game jitters or something that happened in the locker room but YAY!

Can't remember the last time I drove home after a game smiling because the team overcame a deficit to win. I think the team will have some ups and downs this season but the program is going in a good direction.
 
Very excited for the weekend! I know we're going to have bad periods, bad games, and even bad weekends, but I'm definitely in the "we won't finish last" camp. Go Cats Go!
