Plattsburgh defeats NEWHA member St. Michael's 8-0 in an exhibition. Annie Katonka scored 5 goals including 3 of 4 goals on the Cards' 4 for 4 power play night. Newcomers Lily Stumm and Bridget Orr scored along with Taylor Whitney to round out the scoring. It was a fairly even first with Plattsburgh up only 1-0 and St. Michael's having a faceoff advantage, but Plattsburgh turned up the heat for the last two frames. The rematch is set for 3PM tomorrow in Plattsburgh.

The other exhibition I know of for tomorrow is Adrian taking on the Buffalo Beauts of the PHF (fka NWHL)

Exhibition results from this weekend:

Plattsburgh beat St. Michael's 8-0 in game 1 and 2-0 in game 2.
Nazareth over Elmira 2-0 and William Smith 4-3.
Cannot find a score for Elmira vs Cortland
Oswego beat King's 18-0 and Neumann 7-0.
Buffalo State beat King's 2-0
Adrian drops an exhibition to the Buffalo Beauts of the PHF 8-0

Oswego leads Adrian 1-0 after 2, and the Lakers would be up further if not for stellar saves from Jandova.
Stevens Point leads St. Olaf 1-0 midway through the first.
William Smith up 3-0 after 1 period against Potsdam.
Trine leads Stevenson 3-1 after 2.
USM defeated UNE 4-1 earlier today.
St. Catherine defeated Finlandia earlier, also a 4-1 win.
Suffolk defeated Plymouth State 5-2.

Oswego upsets the Lakers 2-1, giving up the deflection goal to Adrian with only 17 seconds left and over 2 minutes defending the extra attacker. Megan Teachout scored both Laker goals and former Meijer AAA goalie Joanna Hiebert was a brick wall. Early favorite for NEWHL Goalie of the Year if she can keep this play up.

Stevens Point up 3-2 over St. Olaf with 5 to go in the 2nd. St. Olaf's has answered the first two goals. Can they match the third.

William Smith up 6-0 midway through the third against Potsdam.

Eau Claire up 3-0 against St. Benedict at the end of 2.

- Not sure what to make of sweeps by Aurora, Bethel and Canton given the opponents.
- Good debut weekend for WNEU and to an extent Worcester State (largely comprised of players from the defunct Becker program with Becker's former HC).

Two teams will be without players as they will be at Olympic qualifying:

Simone Bednarik will be unavailable to Oswego as she will play with Team Slovakia.

Notable upcoming games this week:

- Norwich at Plattsburgh on Wednesday in a battle of regional rivals and the two most recent DIII champions
- MIAC newcomer St. Scholastica takes on an undefeated St. Olaf, which is off to a 4-0 start after going winless for years on Friday and Saturday.
- Former UCHC rivals meet as members of the NEHC when Elmira and William Smith face off this Saturday.
- Defending champion Plattsburgh visits a surging Oswego team on Saturday.

#1 Plattsburgh comes back from an early deficit to beat #7 Norwich 4-1. Freshman defender Mattie Norton with two power play goals and an assist, along with goals from Katonka and Unsworth.

Plattsburgh got by with smart, sound defense, great individual offensive play, and their ability to outlast their opponents on their skates. Room for improvement would be team speed and faceoffs. The faceoff states surprised me vs what I saw on the ice. They also took some dumb penalties that could have cost them, particularly the two unsportsmanlike penalties by upperclassmen. This was a great early win.

Plattsburgh's next opportunity against Norwich would be if they both end up in the championship or consolation at the East/West. Plattsburgh has a road trip against Buff State and an improved Oswego program this weekend. Norwich will host Plymouth State and Castleton this weekend.

Rachel Grampp (Elmira '18) takes over as interim HC of Buffalo State as David Dee has resigned to pursue other professional opportunities. Following her graduation from Elmira, Grampp has been an assistant coach at SUNY Canton and Buffalo State. She was also a coaching intern at the U15 National Development Camp.

Grampp is a native of Williamsville, which is about 10 miles from the Buff State campus.

Grampp makes her head coaching debut at home against #1 ranked Plattsburgh in about an hour and fifteen minutes from this post.
