The NEWHL seems to think awards need to be done piecemeal, starting with rookies today, all-conference tomorrow and the POTY on Friday

NEWHL Rookie of the Year is Mia Hlasnick - F - Cortland.

NEWHL All-Rookie Team
  • F Simone Bednarik (Oswego)
  • G Molly Goergen (Cortland)
  • F Mia Hlasnick (Cortland)
  • F Iida Laitinen (Canton)
  • D Mattie Norton (Plattsburgh)
  • F Mae Olshansky (Plattsburgh)
Since I follow the NEWHL the closest being a Plattsburgh alumnus, I'll take my guesses just for fun:

I predict the POTY will be Annie Katonka from Plattsburgh, GOTY will be Sirena Alvarez and COTY will be Houle or Digby, though Rachel Grampp may deserve it most just for taking on the thankless task of coaching Buff State when their coach quit midseason.

the All-Conference will be from this pool:

Plattsburgh: Katonka, Krauseneck, Boric, Drew-Mead, Unsworth, Olshansky, Norton, McArdle, Wasik
Oswego: Kennedy, Grugin, Haas, Shines, Zenstein, Teggart, Bednarik, Hiebert
Cortland: Goergen, Hlasnick, Schnorr, Gaffney, DeVoe, Donegan
Canton: Alvarez, Laitinen, MacIntyre, Kosnaskie, Best, Snook
Potsdam: Teachout (she went from Oswego to Potsdam mid-year), Merrill, DellaNeve, Cleary, Zurfluh is a better goalie then on paper so maybe
Morrisville: Brown
Buff State: Cruzal

I think we're waiting on the NEWHL Player and Coach of the year honors and all WIAC and MIAC awards.

The Laura Hurd finalists will be the POTYs Wilson, Santullo, Beaudin, Cote, Leidt, the NEWHL POTY (likely Katonka), WIAC POTY (likely Hoff from UWRF), the MIAC POTY (Rausch, Holland or Power?). I think the favorites are Hoff and Katonka. I don't see a non-POTY who would stand out to gain their own finalist nod like Bre Simon.

NEWHL Player of the Year is Plattsburgh's Annie Katonka. NEWHL Goalie of the Year is Cortland freshman Molly Goergen. No announcement of Coach of the Year.

In regards to the MIAC awards, I thought they did a pretty decent job overall.

I'm a little surprised with the player of the year selections. Rausch was an elite scorer, but can't see how the player of the year (or at least a share) doesn't go to a GAC player. The Gusties rolled through a very deep conference, clearing the 2nd place team by a whopping nine points and shutting out many. Really thought it was going to one of: Vrieze, Holland, Press or Power. If they were going to do co-players of the year, I was thinking Rausch and one of the aforementioned Gustavus players.

Also, very odd to see a Hamline player get the sportsmanship award given the sheer amount of times they were shorthanded this season, particularly for how many games they were the better team who had control of the puck more often. Really hard sell there.

Holy crap, I don't think the MIAC has enough awards! I think they missed a few people. Now where are those darned Participant ribbons when you need them?!

AHCA Coach of the Year Award finalists are announced, and as expected the finalists are all 8 conference coaches of the year plus the two non-COTYs who made the semifinal weekend

AHCA Coach of the Year finalists:

Chris Baudo, Nazareth, UCHC Coach of ther Year
Mike Carroll, Gustavus Adolphus, MIAC Coach of the Year and NCAA Semifinalist
Tim Crowley, Elmira, NCAA Semifinalist
Rick Filighera, Cortland, NEWHL Coach of the Year
Kevin Houle, Plattsburgh*, NCAA Semifinalist
John Lauziere, So. ME, NEHC Coach of the Year
Lindsay Macy, Finlandia, NCHA Coach of the Year
Bill Mandigo, Middlebury*, NESCAC Coach of the Year and NCAA Semifinalist
Erik Strand, UW-Eau Claire, WIAC Coach of the Year
Taylor Wasylk, Suffolk, CCC Coach of the Year

I'm going to guess they give it to Mandigo.

Mandigo or Baudo would seem to be the most likely candidates I would think. But 25-0-0 is pretty special heading into the championship weekend....

As expected, the finalists for the 2022 Laura Hurd Award are the conference Players of the Year. There are no extra nominees.

Eliza Beaudin, SR F, Elmira
(Lewiston, ME) NEHC Player of the Year

Shana Cote, SR F, Suffolk
(Broomfield, CO) CCC Player of the Year

Callie Hoff, SR F, UW-River Falls
(Hermantown, MN) WIAC Player of the Year

Annie Katonka, SR F, Plattsburgh State
(Pittsburgh, PA) NEWHL Player of the Year

Madie Leidt, SR F, Middlebury College
(Des Moines, IA) NESCAC Player of the Year

Sophie Rausch, JR F, Hamline University
(Fergus Falls, MN) MIAC Co-Player of the Year

Georgiana Santullo, SR F, Utica University
(Woburn, MA) UCHC Player of the Year

Brandi Wilson, SR F, Trine University
(Fenton, MI) NCHA Player of the Year

Ary Ziakas, SR G, St. Mary's University
(Palatine, IL) MIAC Co-Player of the Year

I think it will come down to Katonka or Hoff.

Season wise: Katonka has the edge in goals, goals per game, power play goals, and game winning goals. Hoff leads in points and assists.

Career wise, both players are twice-reigning POTYs of their conference. For career records, Hoff leads points, points per game, goals, assists, and shorthanded goals. Katonka leads goals per game, power play goals and game-winning goals. Katonka has an NCAA championship to her name, and tied linemate Abby Brush for most points in the 2019 tournament. Katonka has been to the NCAA semifinals every year of her career while this will be Hoff's first trip.

Middlebury feels underrepresented given its undefeated status. River Falls has the most players of non-semifinalist teams. GAC has the least among the semifinalists with just one All-American.
