2020 UVM offseason: Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Re: 2020 UVM offseason: Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

The term "backed out" is incorrect and unfair. You can't back out of a deal if you have never accepted the offer. I can't speak to what happened at HC or Merrimack, but I do know that bu pursued Jerry two summers ago with a "full court press, (to borrow a term from bouncy ball). He turned them down. He has a very good situation at NU, and works well with Jimmy Madigan and others. The fact that he has taken his name out of the mix saves UVM the stress/embarrassment of having its offer rejected.

I think UVM took him out of the mix not the way it is being spun

Just happy they finally made a decision and his international experience sounds great. Hope he can keep the recruits he wants and maybe snag some others. And the NHL connections certainly won’t hurt.

Re: 2020 UVM offseason: Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

I'm going to be optimistic about this hire because I think we owe it to all of ourselves to try optimism for a change after years of not feeling much of any. I do agree that the staff is going to be important so it will be interesting who he brings in and you'd like to see someone who knows NCAA a bit better. I was trying to find a comparable situation and the only one I could find was Mike Haviland at Colorado College and those results have not been good but at the same time CC hasn't really been good since Lucia left in the 1990s and outside the 50s it really was the only time they were good. Every situation is different but I think that the profile of Woodcroft is something that can work at UVM because I think it's a job that needs a coach who loves to coach.

People certainly entitled to their opinions but I find the talk on social media about this being a horrible hire from Ben Barr stans to be a bit much. We really don't know and can only hope but here's to trying some positivity for a change.

This coaching search is the most entertaining thing that's happened in the last month. There's been like 4 different "front-runners"

Great drama. And like the plot lines of classic movies, none of the "front runners" were standing at the end. And the guy that finally rode into town was someone nobody outside of Winnipeg ever heard of.

But good luck to him. At least he should find the Burlington winters relatively comfy compared with the biting, bitter winds of the Manitoba plains.

Good luck UVM! Sounds like an excellent hire.
As a maine fan here, envious of you getting a young energetic guy who can develop a program.

Barr was definitely my choice but I'm really intrigued by what I read about this guy. Could be the boom or bust pick. Does anyone have an idea who possible asst. coaches might be? Gonna be really important with an inexperienced hire.

It does look like there a couple of twitter nonames who are trashing this, but I bet they were probably going to do that anyway. The response from reporters seems positive.

He seems to have a lot of experience scouting and that is something this program will benefit from. Hopefully his connections and ability to identify talent will bring in some recruits. I'll be interested to see how the roster changes if at all and who he brings in as assistant coaches.

Regardless, fresh blood, drive and enthusiasm will be beneficial.
