2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

Bernie is no better than Trump on that front. I get it ruins your “socialist” branding if the Bernie Bros realize you pay a lower tax rate than them and are still worth 8 or 9 figures. But release them and own it.

I could have swore he told Trevor on the Daily Show the other night that he was releasing them. He has to, doesn't he? No one can survive a Dem primary without em out there.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

I wonder why Bernie still won't release his tax returns...
The same reason none of the other candidates have I'm guessing (I think Harris, Gillibrand, and Warren are the only ones to have released them so far).

But of course the corporate media is only going to focus on one guy

Probably trying to figure out how to separate his taxes from his wife since she scammed a university into collapse.

I thought Amy K was going to release hers soon, if she already hasn't...don't quote me though.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

Looks like she's released 12 years of them up through 2017.

Ok, thank you. :) Seems she's trying to get ahead of anything the Repubs might throw at her (b* boss, taxes, etc)

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Who ISN'T Running At This Point?

Why wouldn't candidates just release all their taxes, all the way back to age 18? What is the big deal? It's money and property -- who gives a sh-t; it's the equivalent of releasing your stool sample.

Ask Dump. Whose taxes we will never see.

I mean they should and I assume most will release a decade or so. The tax deadline for this year isn't even here yet though and I believe candidates waited longer in 2016 to release them so for now it's just a disingenuous talking point being applied to one candidate.

Just make it a requirement. If you run for office the IRS releases all your taxes; you have nothing to say about it.

Because it's nobody's business.

Do you black out your social security number and pass around your return at cocktail parties? (Don't answer that) If it was really important for purposes of determining things like potential conflicts of interest, we'd make candidates all the way down to town council release them. It is of so little importance that each year since presidents have been voluntarily releasing their tax returns, the only thing ever reported is income and charitable contributions. Who cares???

If candidates have to be an open book, then I want to see their Google search engine histories, netflix rentals, cell phone records and medical records (after all, if I'm voting for someone with dissociative identity disorder, I want to know how many candidates I'm voting for).

No. It is our business.

The Title of Nobility Clause is a provision in Article I, Section 9, Clause 8 of the United States Constitution,[1] that prohibits the federal government from granting titles of nobility, and restricts members of the government from receiving gifts, emoluments, offices or titles from foreign states and monarchies without the consent of the United States Congress. Also known as the Emoluments Clause, it was designed to shield the republican character of the United States against so-called "corrupting foreign influences." This shield is reinforced by the corresponding prohibition on state titles of nobility in Article I, Section 10, and more generally by the Republican Guarantee Clause in Article IV, Section 4.[2]

You want to live in a Banana Republic you go right ahead. Not me.

Bullsh-t. The reason you keep your taxes secret when you're running for office is:

1. You're faking being a billionaire but you're actually broke
2. You're doing stuff that is so shady it ought to be illegal
3. You're owned by a foreign government and its financial entities
4. You're a pathological liar and your returns will show that to even the dumbest of your supporters
5. All of the above

tl;dr - The only thing that matters is the (R)

When they voted for Reagan they were yelling they were stupid, but we already knew they were stupid.

When they voted for Dubya they were screeching they were cowards, but we already knew they were cowards.

When they voted for Dump they were screaming they were traitors, and, to me at least, that was news. I hadn't realized before they were traitors.

45% of the electorate should have their citizenship revoked like the Confederacy during the rebellion. "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

I'm establishment only in that I'm just not trying to enact an ideology - fascism nor socialism - for its own sake. I want the best for this country and it has a left lean to that but there is no single ideology that does it. Perhaps that's dx and Rover also.

Same here. I want to 1) win and then 2) enact as much progressive stuff as I can. Obama's presidency is a good proxy for that as was Clinton's although in Clinton's case I think the GOP has changed too much from working with a Dem to now being a treasonous money laundering cult.

Problem with the far left is they're rather lose to make a point under the belief that the status quo is as bad as it can possibly get. As I try to warn them, hand the GOP total control of the govt again even if for only 2 years and the status quo is going to look like the good old days. The opposition are Nazi's, not the grandfatherly country club types of long ago. Vote for the people in the best position to beat them every single time an election is being held, from President on down to dog catcher, and don't fret if the Dem nominee for dog catcher took a few bucks from the Petco SuperPac!
