Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

I don't think Yang's are actually coming from the Kremlin. I think it's the nerdgasm that gave us the Ron Paul Revolution a couple cycles back. Pasty computer geeks who have never kissed a girl really love technocratic solutions.

Probably true.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

Yeah Yang's support doesnt come from the Kremlin...it comes from the offshoot of the Bernbots who think people like Kepler are Corpratist Sellouts ;)

To be fair, I have a floor (So what, so what, so what?) so I am, in fact, a corporate sellout.

I want the Poors to have a chance. I don't want to live like them or, worse, near them. I mean have you met them?

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

Search ‘Buttigieg deficit’ on Twitter. Another sad reminder of how much our country has completely lost the plot. He gave a perfectly reasonable response to a good question and now is copping it on social media.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

Because social media is filled with people who think we can afford everything and ignore the debt.

If we manage to save the planet and not kill half the world in the process, the debt is the next looming crisis. Maybe it’s not. But at some point, some insane idiot is going to do something stupid on the world stage and it will suddenly become an anchor.

Oh and I’m not just referring to the BernBros. I’m also referring to the MICurbators like Bolton.

The debt is mostly just used as boogeyman to justify the idea that we can’t have nice things. In reality the US owns its own currency and can pay down the debt as necessary but so far it’s not nearly as big a problem as people make it out to be, the AA+ Moody’s rating being a good indicator of that. And in reality it’s pretty low on the list of problems or threats to this country’s well being.

How did Moody’s do leading up to the Great Recession? The debt is one of those things that isn’t a big problem until it is. What is going to kill us is the interest to service it and as we get further in debt and purchasers of the debt need a higher risk premium we will be in trouble. If the cost even goes up 100 basis points that would really hurt the budget.

well there is the debt, and then there is the fact that we continue to run $1T+ deficits during what is supposedly a booming economy. That is a problem.

Yeah, that isn’t the Democrats fault. That’s the whole problem with Pete’s statement. If the Dems had given a giant tax break for no reason, then he’d have a point.

He didn’t say it was. His statement was simply that it isn’t something that traditionally democrats run on. The more important bit is that he’s a million percent right that we should be concerned and action needs to be taken. Him and I are close in age and the debt/deficit situation is going to be like a lead weight around the county’s neck for the rest of our lives.

doesn't meat the next president should ignore the deficit or add to it

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

Well at least republicans will care about the deficit again once a dem is elected right

They sure will. And when they get in power again they'll be making sure to pass another trillion dollar stock buyback tax cut.

The largest complaint about any Dem progressive program is that it will drive up the deficit. Yeah, sure, literally on its face, he’s not saying it’s the Democrats fault, but it’s a common GOP talking point that Dems just want to spend money for why we should never do anything that might help the common man.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers VII: Bon Voyage Beto

And I'll ask this in response to my own post below. When are the people in this country going to figure out that the stock market doesn't do enough for them that a trillion dollar tax cut just to boost it is a bad deal?

The country going bankrupt sure as hell won’t help the common man. The deficits don’t matter crowd(and I’m not saying that is necessarily from the left) is as crazy as the supply side economics crowd.
