Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

I think he’s the real deal and would be a decent enough president. It would be nice if we didn’t have another dinosaur.

Yeah. Obama had seriously amazing public speaking capabilities. I am not sure how Beto stacks up. But he doesn't bring a Mass or Cal politician which is a tough sell for a D. I see the inside track as Joe, Kamala and Beto if they run. I don't think Bernie or Warren get serious looks.

Take a look at the last ~40 years and let me know which party consistently elects dinosaurs, then remind me why exactly you support them when you keep saying your totally against pretty much everything they do.

If Beto runs, I truly think he clears the field of all white people, especially men. Only ones who seriously challenge him are Harris, Booker, maybe a couple more women.

Charisma is key in politicians, and he rolled a natural 19 or 20. And while he might not also have Obama's intelligence, compared to Trump he's got it in spades.

If "having ties to Wall St" is disqualifying for progressives, I can't see how Booker gets any traction. I mean, wasn't that the reason why a couple of million Berniecrats voted FOR Trump last time around?

I don't see a lane to run in for Bernie or Lizzy Warren. They have identical positions as Kamala Harris only she's 1) younger, 2) non-white, and 3) from a state that contains the most delegates.

Agree that O'Rourke is a wild card. Right now the "liberal not from the coasts" track is occupied by Klobacher and Sherrod Brown. He'd definitely scramble their chances.

Yeah I dont think Booker is the guy...the issues with Big Pharma will kill him. Health Care is THE issue and if he is seen as in bed with Big Pharma that will be a major albatross.

I would have to think Harris is the internal frontrunner but who the heck knows. I think Beto makes a very intriguing VP pick if he cant make inroads for the top spot.

Does Kamala appeal to many people who aren’t into identity politics? She didn’t go to a very good college and her professional career isn’t super impressive. In a lot of ways she is kind of like Trump in that she will be VERY appealing to a certain group of voters and not very appealing to everyone else.

What is your obsession with identity politics? Is it because the Republican Party is almost entirely white males? Is it because their wives vote the way they vote because they can't think for themselves?

The only people who care what college these people went to are the conservatives who whine about Liberal Elites.

And yeah she appeals to a certain group of voters...liberals.

Another bizarre post from the master.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

Who the nominee is to me is going to be driven by the same thing that made Bill Clinton, Barack Obama and then Hillary Clinton the nominees, which is picking up the lions share of delegates in the South with a huge % of non-white voters but usually no candidate from the region. That, not some wicked scheme by evil genius DWS and the DNC  ;) is what cost Bernie Sanders and hope of winning. Its why Obama won a tight contest in 2008. O'Rourke has the potential to clean up in the Southwest from TX to AZ and NV with all of the Hispanic voters (although he will need to play nice with Harry Reid for NV). Harris as a black female might have a head start from NC to FL and over to LA and TN given that those are more influenced by black voters. If they both run it sets up an interesting dynamic in the usually decisive region and could end up making the rust belt states the kingmaker this time around.

Re: 2020 Democratic Challengers: Boogaloo

I'd like to see some combination of Harris and O'Rourke. O'Rourke is young, so if he were VP he'd be setup to run again

Bernie and Diamond Joe, your time has passed.

Kamala's career is strong from a technical standpoint - and she would have the same level of appeal to 50% of the pop as Trump has with the other 40%. She runs laps around Trump in terms of smarts. Probably her #1 issue is that she's from CA and that's significant. Due to star power, Trump was not a NY candidate but a national one and that was his advantage.

Beto's charisma is very good but I don't know if its that impressive. There are many in normal life that can match him. He just destroys most politicians because those attracted to politics are typically hypermotivated ideologues which doesn't often come from those with charisma. Beto doesn't fit that profile - that may be what's special about him.

Booker is not electable.

Her failure to prosecute Steve Mnuchin, especially when you can tie that to how Obama handled the financial crisis, isn't ideal. Not sure how she's more electable than Booker.
