2020-21 Penn State Nittany Lions

Somebody on here called Celeste to RIT and it turned out to be quite the prognostication. Davis had PSU figured out, it will be interesting to see how the grasshopper fares against PSU.

That would be me. You're welcome! Here's my post:

She'll be the new head coach at RIT now that they've fired the coaches from this year. You heard it here first!"

I just read two articles: The USCHO article on Celeste Brown taking the RIT job. The trailblazer from Montana says she is back in "Tiger Country."

The second article was the Article on Laing, the two time Princeton Captain on getting her driver's license. Kampresal must be proud of his former player showing her resiliency. I think he won't issue her number at Penn State in her honor. That's a small, but meaningful gesture.

Penn State made it official today: no fans at Fall sporting events:

https://gopsusports.com/news/2020/8/...y-barbour.aspx

"As of today, the current large group gatherings guidance from the (Pennsylvania) Governor's office limits capacity to 250 people for outside events and 25 people for inside events. Therefore, under the current conditions and current state orders, our fall sports events would be conducted without fans in the general seating areas of our facilities."

"Regardless of whether we play or don't play, our revenue losses will be in the high eight figures, reaching nine figures in the case of no competition."

Well, it's not hockey, but it might be a sign of things to come for hockey - the Big Ten cancelled Fall sports, including football, soccer, women's volleyball, cross country, and field hockey.

"The Big Ten Conference will continue to evaluate a number of options regarding these sports, including the possibility of competition in the spring. Decisions regarding winter and spring sports will also continue to be evaluated."

I thought for sure the position would go unfilled until it is determined if there is a season. Congrats to the new asst coach. Meanwhile, Notre Dame announced it might send kids home.

Today is the first day of classes at Penn State. They already recorded 148 new Covid-positive tests last week, so the show is just getting started. Any guesses as to how long before the students are told to pack up and go back home? I give it a month.

UNC did not test before the kids came back. That turned out to be a huge mistake. I'm hearing the schools that tested the students before they came back or when they came back seem to have a fighting chance. The schools were able to quarantine the positives off campus.

I just heard on the radio up the NFL is doing good so I think there is hope with some precaution.

I don't think 148 cases amongst 30,000 or so students is a lot. I think these schools just need to stay the course and not panic. They should have planned on having some cases.

.005 percent to be exact! Penn State should order the Covid Breath Test from Israel at about $2 a test with results in minutes to stay on top of this.

I read this to mean they had 148 positives from students that were pre-tested prior to being cleared to come to campus. If these tests were conducted in "higher outbreak" areas, I don't think 148 is anything to panic over. The true test will be how they sustain over the course of the coming weeks.

My daughter has been there a week and has been tested 4 times. Incoming freshmen were sent a saliva test before being allowed to come to campus. Athletes are basically in a bubble. They are tested twice a week and the classes are virtual. Other than the one party at the East dorm the students are wearing masks everywhere and are taking this very seriously. When we were out there dropping her off. We were very impressed with the state regulations. if any school has a chance to be a success story about continuing to have school it seems to be Penn State. It was obvious that they have a very good plan in place for the whole student body. The citizens of the state are taking it very seriously. Pennsylvania is the example of how to do it right.

Notre Dame professors sent a letter yesterday saying that the school should stay the course and keep in person classes despite a brief outbreak.

I like to hear both the posts above. I go back to the MD at Arizona leading the way. It's extremely unfortunate that it looks like the new commish in Big Ten postponed the football season without a vote unless I missed something which is completely possible. No one else has cancelled since then. What was the hurry?

Agreed. Without jinxing anything, it seems like things are trending in the right direction for sports. NHL and NBA are doing fine. MLB is getting by. Massachusetts just announced that all high school sports, fall & winter can go forward. I think that is a big step. How do the colleges in Mass rationalize not playing if the high schools are playing?

The Dolphins announced that they will have 15,000 fans at their first game.

I agree that the some of the football conferences panicked too early and cancelled.

New York's Governor just declared volleyball, "contact" cheerleading, football, and ice hockey to be high risk and not cleared to be played or practiced. Soccer and field hockey (among others) were deemed OK to start September 21st.

He is an idiot. USA hockey cleared hockey to resume and its being played everywhere in the US and Canada. He's more concerned about waiving his 14 day quarantine rules for California celebrity democrats for the VMAs than what his citizens need. Still the league leader in dead nursing home residents by a wide margin. Follow the science until it doesn't fit your narrative.

He has a BIG10 mentality and a BIG10 Ego. ;)
