2020-21 Penn State Nittany Lions

Nice team win to position themselves to control their own destiny. Did not play well for the entirety of the game, but, kept it together and improved play as the game progressed. Great job reducing penalties taken while there is quite a bit of work to be done on the power play. Nice effort overall. RMU will toss everything at them today and they have to it the ice ready to go.

Never would have seen that article without that link Zed. Way to go. Joila it talks about faceoffs and penalties with a side of blocks.

At the end of the first period it's 1-0 Robert Morris. Penn State leads the shots on goal 10-8, and there were no penalties that period. So far, it's another very fast game, and Robert Morris's Raygen Kirk has made some huge saves to keep Penn State off the scoreboard. Gotta believe she can't keep that up for two more periods, and Penn State is on the gas hard.

After two it's Penn State up 3-2 on Robert Morris, on goals from Amy Dobson, Julie Gough, and Olivia Wallin. Penn State took two penalties and Robert Morris took one, but neither team scored on the powerplay. Penn State leads the shots on goal 22-19. This game is non-stop go.

Penn State sweeps Robert Morris for the second time this season by a score of 4-2! Penn State is now in first place in the CHA by five points, with six games to play. This was a signature weekend sweep, and if Penn State doesn't move up in the polls after this one then the poll voters are blind. Josie Bothun was incredible all weekend, but so was Raygen Kirk for Robert Morris. This whole weekend was played at 100MPH, and this sweep really defines this 2020-21 Penn State team.

That's a season sweep for Penn State against RMU, too. I wonder how long it's been since another team did that to the Colonials? Nice kill by Penn State on the five-minute major, too.

Lakers went 2-1-1 in reg season against RMU last year. But RMU certainly haven’t lost many reg season in conference series over the past few years. Nice job by Penn State.

If you win a lot ... Do you get a better announcer? Evidently so. Lol. Loved his energy and excitement.

Those guys are the men's hockey play-by-play guys. I wonder what it took to get them to call this one. The athletic director was in the stands at this game, too. The women's team is winning and is ranked - I think we're going to need a bigger bandwagon.

The pep band made it to a game last year and now you have the A team on announcers. Barbour's plan was to have all programs in the top ten or something similar and now she has delivered in the year of the virus no less.

RMU was targeting a specific matchup all weekend for Diffendahl and PSU will have to look at the tape and figure it out because Diffendahl is dangerous.

Much like Fargo at Colgate, and Lonergan, both coaches need to come up with something other than what they are doing. Kampersal was finally able to slow up Nuutinen last year so maybe he still has something up his sleeve.

A win is a win and that 5 on 3 kill was something else.

Mercyhurst took two from Syracuse and is coming up and it should be another exciting weekend. How did RIT beat them 1-0? That may be one of the upsets of the year so far.

PSU cannot look past RIT who has been a thorn for PSU throughout their history.

Take a ways from RMU weekend.
1. The chemistry on this team is really good.
2. They handle adversity really well.
3. All the Freshmen make this team a very tough team to defend there is always a new name coming through.
4. They skate better than every team in the CHA.
5. They need to clean up the penaltiies.
6. Oliva Wallin is a female Version of Brett Hull not the best skater but knows how to score goals. Her goal at the end of the 2nd on Saturday I am still amazed at.
7. Trap series against Rit. Though the opportunity to win the conference at home might negate that.

As might the fact that RIT hasn't scored more than once in any game this season, and only has one goal in its last six games combined. The RIT Tigers trap doesn't have many teeth.

I'd love to know how Penn State doesn't move up in the USCHO poll after finishing its second sweep against Robert Morris. The USA Today poll tomorrow should be fun - they dropped Penn State one place last week for a *gasp* tie. Can't wait to see what they do after this weekend's sweep.

The production out of Gough and Dobson has been the quiet story. And they have put the points up against the upper teams in the conference. The team defense has been stifling. All games but two, two and under.

As far as rankings - it all depends on what the teams above you do. I'm predicting not much movement.

Since rankings are a new thing for Penn State, maybe I'm missing something, but this is why I'm saying USCHO and USA Today are off:

Penn State's Pairwise ranking is #5 (better than Minnesota, UMD, BC, and Ohio State).

Their RPI ranking is #5 (better than Minnesota, UMD, BC, and Ohio State).

Their win % is #2 (better than everybody except Northeastern).

Their strength of schedule is #8 (better than BC and UMD).

Every season when discussions about the rankings come up, I've always seen it revolve around Pairwise, RPI, strength of schedule. If that's the case, Penn State should be much higher in the rankings. If I'm missing something, let me know...this is new territory for a Penn State fan.
