2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

Thanks Shabby and drshoen. Should be an interesting weekend.

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

PWR has Cornell in even if they lose to Brown, they drop to #14 with AIC and Brown getting #15 and #16, if Brown wins Saturday night also.

However Cornell is bumped in that scenario should a Boston College or Boston University win Hockey East.

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

At Lake Placid you will see all of the ECAC team banners hanging from the rafters along with the years that each school has won an ECAC Tournament championship. I believe there are two teams, which have yet to win.

Brown has never won an ECAC Tournament Championship. I don't believe that Dartmouth has either.

Brown has made it to the finals thought, five times.

Year
1965 - Lost to BC
1976 - Lost to BU
1993 - Lost to Clarkson
2013 - Lost to Union
2015 - Lost to Union ?

Brown has only made it four times, with the most recent appearance coming in 2013. I believe you have all the other years and opponents correct, though.

The banners hanging at Meehan Auditorium celebrate some noteworthy accomplishments, but the most prestigious of them either belong to the women’s team, reflect ancient Final Four appearances (before it was even dubbed “Frozen”), or represent the occasional Ivy championship (of which none are particularly recent; they also are not held in particularly high esteem since there is no official Ivy hockey conference).

It sure would be nice to add a banner celebrating a more concrete and contemporary achievement above the east goal! Going through two Ivy teams would make it even more satisfying.

Harvard beat Colgate in the 2015 ECAC Championship.

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

ECAC Representation in the NCAA's since 2007 (Hopefully I got it right)

Year - # Teams
2007 - 2 Clarkson, St. Lawrence
2008 - 2 Clarkson, Princeton
2009 - 3 Princeton, Yale, Cornell
2010 - 2 Yale, Cornell
2011 - 3 Yale, Union, RPI
2012 - 2 Union, Cornell
2013 - 3 Qpac, Union, Yale
2014 - 3 Qpac, Union, Colgate
2015 - 3 Qpac, Harvard, Yale
2016 - 3 Qpac, Harvard, Yale
2017 - 3 Union, Harvard, Cornell
2018 - 3 Cornell, Clarkson, Princeton
2019 - ?

If we land 4 in the tournament, I believe it will be a record since the split with HE and Vermont leaving (2006?).

I don't think that there have been 4 ECAC schools in the tourney since 1984 (BC, BU, Clarkson, RPI), the last year before the NCAA-HEA split

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

I just postponed my trip to Lake Placid. 12-18" of snow are expected for a 24 hour period from early AM Friday until Saturday sometime before noon. Luckily, the place I am staying is allowing me to use my deposit at another time in the spring. From NWS,

Winter Storm Warning in effect from Friday, 2:00 AM EDT until Saturday, 12:00 PM EDT. Source: U.S. National Weather Service
...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 2 AM FRIDAY TO NOON EDT
SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Heavy snow. Total snow accumulations of 12 to 18 inches
expected with isolated higher amounts possible. Winds gusting
as high as 35 mph.

* WHERE...Southeastern St. Lawrence, Southern Franklin, Western
Clinton and Western Essex Counties.

* WHEN...Snow will move into the warning area around midnight and
become moderate to heavy at times through Saturday morning.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel could be very difficult. The
hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening
commute. Scattered power outages are possible.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather
conditions will make travel very hazardous or impossible. If you
must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your
vehicle in case of an emergency.

Please allow extra time if travel is necessary.

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

People please be careful or stay home, it's not worth getting in trouble. If you do go the earlier the better with tomorrow eve being the worst. Awful weather, the wind up to 40 mph. Geesh !

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

Several Brown fans are leaving Friday morning for LP. I am planning on leaving Albany around 10am. Can someone post in the morning as to weather conditions and what police agencies are saying about travel? I am concerned about traveling on 86 after I get off the Northway.

1.It snows a lot in the High Peaks.
2. In northern NY it is what's known as just another *#%^*# **** snowstorm.
3. The DOT crews are good at what they do.

That said, If you are driving a Prius with bald tires, please do the State Police and your fellow travelers a solid and stay the heck home. If you are an experienced winter driver with a reliable car equipped with tires that can produce traction in winter conditions, then proceed on!

Not sure of your source, but the NWS is still saying 12-18 per the storm warning for Lake Placid, Good luck and safe travels to all the hearty souls who head out.

I thought it was 9 (Exit 30) to 73 to Lake Placid?

Many moons ago (78), I was headed back to Clarkson in similar conditions. I stopped at a State Police barracks to ask about road conditions in the Adirondacks.

Beware ice dams that block streams that cause flooding on the main road.

Drive safe. It's snowing in the NC right now.

Re: 2019 ECAC Championship Weekend in Lake Placid

Good Luck to Cornell, Clarkson, Harvard, and Brown on the Whitelaw! Take in the experience as it truly it a bucket list endeavor. For the travelers, be safe!
