2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

Re: 2019-20 NMU Hockey Season

The WCHA automatic NCAA bid for winning the year-end Conference Tournament takes the worry out of the PairWise Rankings but until somebody dethrones Mankato you still have to hope for some PairWise help to get in.... It also doesn't hurt to have a high PairWise Ranking if you win the WCHA Conference Tournament as it helps your seeding in the Final 16....

One should also consider that the Atlantic Hockey AQ typically isn't in the top 16. To be safe, you need to be Top 14 — that protects against upsets in AH or WCHA. (Upsets in the other four leagues typically knock one of those leagues' teams out.)

Top 12 is safe. Outside of that, anything can happen, so I don't consider 13 and 14 to be safe spots.

Without running simulations, I agree with that assessment. :)

GFM <— would note that, mathematically, you're only safe in the Top 10.

We must focus only on the next opponent.

Agreed. SCSU is going to be a tough opponent, despite their 1-2-3 record. We also can't go spotting our opponent the first goal every game. Well... maybe it provides some motivation (see:6-1-1 record), but I'm not a fan of it.

Be still, my beating heart. Amazing third period by the Cats to force a tie.

Let's get em tomorrow!

Good job capitalizing on our massive lack of discipline.
Two captains are watching tomorrow if I'm coaching.

Cardiac Cats again.

Forced OT, but St. Cloud wins in the extra frame. Oh well. This was better than what happened in their barn last year.

I'll take it, but only because this team won't go down without swinging. Dug themselves into an 0-3 hole twice this weekend and twice after sixty minutes were tied. One bounce the other way both nights in OT and we would be talking about the nine game undefeated streak. There is A LOT of good to talk about after this weekend despite last night's OT loss.

I absolutely love this never say die attitude. We've seen it in spits-and-spurts in the past, so I hope that this team continues to fight all season.

I can't wait to see this team next weekend, and Alaska will be just as tough as SCSU. They have always given us fits. Proud of this team.
