2018 NCAA DIII Women's Tournament

Erin Connolly is so poised in net. She is THE difference in this game for Eau Claire.

Going to a 3rd OT.

Re: 2018 NCAA DIII Women's Tournament

Anyone know the record for longest game in DIII women? Can't find it yet...

Re: 2018 NCAA DIII Women's Tournament

What is a blugold? Some kind of flower?
The Blugold is the esteemed mascot of UW-Eau Claire. While nobody there knows exactly what it is, it represents the symbol of excellence and is sometimes seen in the form of a man dressed as a blue and gold bird, giving out high fives at the bottom of the large hill in the middle of campus.

Re: 2018 NCAA DIII Women's Tournament

So I looked in the championship records and found where it lists the final score of every game of every round of every year of the NCAA tourney. No game has 3 OT noted. Does anyone know of any 3 OT conference tourney games? I can't think why there's be a regular season one.

Eau Claire athletes are referred to as "Blugolds," a name coined to reflect the school colors, navy blue and old gold. Previous athletic team names include the Normals and the Normalites (because UWEC was founded as the Eau Claire State Normal School), the Blue and Gold Warriors, the Blue and Gold Gridirons, the Zornmen (in honor of Willis L. "Bill" Zorn, basketball and football coach from 1928–1968), the Golden Zornadoes, the Blue and Gold Squad, and the Blugold Squad.

The University of Wisconsin–Eau Claire has no official university mascot. However, in 2011, the student body voted in favor of a mythical bird as a mascot following a student-led initiative. The bird represents "the students of UW-Eau Claire, not the university itself."

Which ever team wins this will have a hard time tommorow......

Despite the excitement of the game, this is the only thought running through my head as well. The longer this goes, the more advantage goes to Hamline. Both mental and physical energy being expended tonight. The game seems to be going mostly in the Gusties' favor right now, but all it takes is one nice shot/unlucky bounce!

Per the announcer (GAC SID) this is the longest women's DIII game ever. The GAC men and Augsburg play 3 over times nine years ago in the MIAC playoffs.

Re: 2018 NCAA DIII Women's Tournament

What a dramatic series of OT periods. So much better than a shootout. The Olympics should take note.

Re: 2018 NCAA DIII Women's Tournament

This was the longest NCAA Tournament game. The longest Div III game belongs to Midd-Hamilton NESCAC Quarterfinal (126:35, 2/28/15), followed closely by the Midd-Trinity NESCAC Semi-final (123:49, 3/6/10)

Perhaps longest NCAA tournament game. Middlebury played Hamilton 126:35 or into the 4th OT in a NESCAC quarterfinal 2/28/15 (http://collegehockeystats.net/1415/boxes/whammid1.f28). Walther (NESCAC PotY this season) made 80 saves in net for the Continentals.
Congrats to Eau-Claire upon advancing!
