2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State girls going to earn their scholarships with games only four, five and 8 days away. Congrats to Kampresal having the team 1 game over .500. Does Yoxheimer have any elgibilty left, I know wishful thinking? When she was leading the way, that was the last time Penn State finished one game over .500.

Replays, interviews, pxp and commentary, and a really nice power play goal at the end too.

I sure wish Penn State would do game day interviews. Just grab a couple players in the tunnel after the game, and catch the coach, and do some quick interviews. Sounds like BTN did a good job!

Here are some video highlights from today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNSPP6Qnf8o&feature=youtu.be

And just another goofy "player cam" video from the post-game skate: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5Dd5E-0x8I

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

It's kind of a quick turnaround for Penn State, as they head to Syracuse for a Friday-Saturday series this weekend. Syracuse this season is like Lindenwood every season, and a box of chocolates: you never know what you're going to get. Syracuse has split with Princeton and Robert Morris, and took Clarkson to overtime, and those are pretty much the highlights. However, they still sit in third place in the CHA, and they are one game ahead of Penn State, so this series is a big one for points. The two Syracuse goalies have a 3.51 and 3.20 goals against average, which bodes well for a Penn State team that has turned on the shooting. Syracuse averages two more penalties per game than Penn State does, so special teams will have their chances this weekend.

Good news - both games are being streamed for free (thanks, Syracuse!). Here are links for the live video:

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

After the first period it's 1-0 Syracuse - not a very hard goal to get through the five hole when a goalie doesn't have her stick. Penn State is up 12-9 in shots, and no penalties for either team so far. It was all Penn State at the start until Syracuse settled into the game, and they ended the period looking pretty even.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Syracuse is up on Penn State 2-0 after two, this second goal being a nice clean snipe. Maddi Welch in net for Syracuse has had a great game so far, with Penn State leading in shots 26-16. Both teams have taken two penalties and killed them both off. The refereeing in this game was really bad in that second period, enough so that the Syracuse announcers pointed it out, too, with Syracuse getting away with a couple of very blatant penalties. Penn State just isn't finding an answer for Maddi Welch, and they don't look as physical as they played against Lindenwood last weekend - maybe that's an extra effort to stay out of the box.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State loses to Syracuse 2-1 tonight, and it's kind of hard to figure out why. Maddi Welch was great in net for Syracuse, but she didn't face many real tricky shots, either. There's no way Syracuse would've scored their first goal if Jenna Brenneman's stick hadn't been ten feet in front of her and laying on the ice - that left a five hole the size of the arena. Their second goal was really nice, though. The third period was pretty much all Penn State, but the Syracuse curse just kept rolling (Penn State hasn't beaten Syracuse since 2015). Tomorrow will be interesting.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State and Syracuse are tied 1-1 after the first period. Things look pretty even between the two teams, and each has taken a penalty and killed it off. Syracuse leads the shots on goal 10-8, and Jenna Brenneman has already made a couple of huge saves for Penn State.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

At the end of the second period, it remains tied 1-1 at Syracuse. Jenna Brenneman made some highlight reel saves in that period. According to Sidearmstats, Syracuse leads the shots on goal 19-15, and that doesn't look right because it means Penn State only had five shots all period - I think that's off. No penalties that period for either team. Syracuse leads 18-8 in blocked shots.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Penn State and Syracuse finish in a 1-1 OT tie. Both teams only took one penalty for the whole game. Penn State looked much better today, a lot more energy, and they had one goal called off, and hit the crossbar twice. Jenna Brenneman was a stud in net, making some enormous saves to keep the game close.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Just checked in on the scores from the weekend and 0-1-1 is disappointing. Next up Princeton. But, wait Syracuse tied Princeton. Parity. Cornell just beat Colgate twice and BU beat and tied Merrimack.

Re: 2018-19 Penn State Nittany Lions

Yes, I do remember that game. Syracuse does seem to save their best for Penn State regardless of the year. The success of Penn State out of conference is stunning considering their equally as stunning record in conference.

That's like the story of this season, in a nutshell - great games out of conference and against ranked teams, and struggles with CHA teams. They haven't been hammered by a ranked team all year, and have beaten or tied teams that I'm sure everyone thought would handle Penn State.

I think they're very close to being a team that starts getting votes in the rankings. Not this season, but I don't think it's very far away, either. Penn State only loses three seniors this year, and they're left with a very solid core behind those three, with some good freshmen coming in next season. Kampersal said when he took over at Penn State that he wants them in the mix when the national tournament is hosted here in 2022, and he already has Penn State looking like a whole different program.
