With her old teammates from Northwood and her having attended Northwood making her more familiar with the region than even many American students Plattsburgh attracts, it is my hope with that she won't have as much culture shock as one might worry about with a non-North American recruit. She may also benefit from Plattsburgh having an active club called JCAP on campus. They're the Japanese Cultural Association of Plattsburgh, and they do a lot of events (many in conjunction with the other culture-based clubs on campus). Also, Club International, the GEO and the SA sponsor the Miss International pageant every year, so there's also the possibility she'll represent Japan one of her years on campus.

Plattsburgh does as well as any of the so-called "Comprehensive College"-level institutions in the SUNY system in terms of attracting and supporting international students (and not just the Canadians on the hockey teams ;))

Castleton: Ryanne Mix right handed D. Let’s hope Salerno worked her magic on the incoming recruits before resigning!

Also from the Washington Wild:

Trine
Natasha Strbiak - D

This Washington Wild club lists 2 more players in the Class of 2018 I'm curious if they are playing somewhere next fall. They have a Canadian forward with 48 points and an offensive defenseman from NJ (why the hell is she all the way out there?) who has 16 points but 74 penalty minutes...

Um, can you say Blake Bolden or Kelley Steadman?!?! Just two examples of "not a stretch at all." Oh, and it's Northwood, not Northwoods.

ya, whatever team has been irrelevant for years. any half decent club team has twice the talent, and ummm the school is a total joke as an academic institution, but i guess you know best. lol.

Well using that type of logic I guess it's easy to say that the majority of college teams have been irrelevant for years. And how many of those colleges are also an academic joke?! I do know best because my original response was to the post questioning D1 players coming from Northwood. I could care less whether you think Northwood is a good school or not. Like most schools, I'm sure the people that went there enjoyed it and possibly even loved it, and there's a good possibility that they would challenge your opinion. But now I guess you know best. LMAO!

Correct, I do know best. I suppose many years ago the school's hockey team was relevant. But those days are long gone and not coming back. Oh and yes, the academics are great. lol.

Oh so you're a graduate of the school and never got recruited to play hockey in college! Now your bitterness makes sense!

Re: 2018-19 DIII Commitments

I imagine if Hamline beats perennial western contenders like River Falls, GAC and St. Thomas to the western region's first D3 NCAA championship some heads will explode.

It's not unheard of to trim down if a team brings in players they think are a better fit. I remember when Plattsburgh did it in Fall 2010. Brought in transfers Klassen, Fisher, Aveson and then Neumann mid-season as well as four freshmen (two of which were key pieces in the 2014 championship run). They ended up with 8 players from the 09-10 team with eligibility left not returning, most notably Mackenzie Lee who went to Oswego and led them in scoring her two seasons there.

This is a good year for Hamline to do it. Plattsburgh, Middlebury, Elmira, GAC and UWRF all losing top senior scorers (some more players than others). Norwich and Elmira both graduated their starting goalie (so did UWRF, but their senior had a 17-11 split in starts with a sophomore). I would consider Norwich a favorite with who they have returning, but if there's been an opening in recent years it would be this year. It's kind of refreshing to see a program outside the big six/seven perennial contenders decide they really want to run the race.

Hamline graduated 106 points in Bobrowski and Dodds. That kind of natural scoring talent is hard to replace no matter if you're a D1 or D3 program but I'd say it's probably harder for a D3 program to do. Maybe the idea with them is to try to replace those points by bringing in a lot of players so they don't have to rely on just two players to score that many points in a season. The Syracuse transfer only scored 2 points all last season so I really don't believe she's going to suddenly score 50 points just by transferring to a D3 team. She probably should have gone D3 in the first place. I don't see Hamline repeating last season's success. If Darwitz is replacing that many players this year you would guess she is going to replace kids that were not productive which means she's mostly replacing her own recruits at this point because almost all the low scoring players were freshmen and sophomores. That doesn't show a whole lot of loyalty to players that she's recruited in. Maybe she's turing into the female version of the GAC coach. Not a good sign!

True Dodds and Bobrowski will be hard to replace, but Simon had 56 points as a sophomore and Hansen had 32 as a freshman. Then they have four forwards returning between 14 and 19 points. It stands to reason that some combination of these players can increase their production to mitigate the loss as they will be given the chance for more ice time. It will be tough but not impossible.

As for the Syracuse transfer, I tend to give D1 transfers the benefit of the doubt and not hang on to their production with the old school. If their numbers were halfway decent they'd likely still be D1. Ali Vakos scored 11 points in 68 games at UConn, put up a 30+ point season for Plattsburgh her senior season. Jenny Kistner had 3 points in her season at Maine, never scored below 23 points a season for the Cardinals.

A lot of these players who have low numbers mostly riding the pine in D1 or even playing third/fourth line on a D3 roster can play well if given the right system and time on ice. Or maybe it seems that way due to confirmation bias seeing it happen with the team I root for...

Your last sentence is very correct! I think most D1 to D3 transfers could play at Plattsburgh and put up a bunch more points than they did as D1 players. Put them at a low end D3 school and that wouldn't happen because they couldn't do it on their own. Hamline isn't low end anymore but they certainly aren't a Plattsburgh either!

Re: 2018-19 DIII Commitments

Bobrowski was head and shoulders the best player in the MIAC, and Dodds was responsible defensively. Simon and Hansen aren't wonderful in their own zone. But some of the recruits they've landed are very talented - so far, the best in-state recruits that have been announced (have to think St. Thomas has some up their sleeve they haven't revealed yet.) So, Hamline will likely be favored in the league, but GAC and St. Thomas will be real solid again. As to Darwitz turning into Mike Carroll... they are equally liked in the league.
