As Vin Scully was making his retirement rounds last season, it was noted that between Vin and Connie Mack, they had been connected with every season of major league baseball for 130 or 131 seasons, as I recall.

I forgot that. So you probably have all of baseball history if you just go Scully --> Mack --> I dunno, Cap Anson or one of those as-sholes. Three, crunch. Like that owl.

He's hurt so maybe we can't do anything worse to him.

BTW I would totally sign him for the ML min whatever it is. I'll bet if he started with us now he'd lead the team in IP by the end of the season. With about 100.

I'm saying I'm in if you are. That is one sweet statue. If the geography works out Dr. Mrs. and I could pick you up on the way. :)

Maybe get some of the other DelMarVa USCHO cognoscenti to meet us there (hint: Ralph). I assume they serve alcohol; that's really all this crowd needs.

Wait!!!! It's a Saturday!!! Buy the tickets and I'll pay Dr. Mrs. back. In normal traffic it's a 1 hr drive on a weekend.

The Yankees called up Dustin Fowler as a left handed bat for the remaining 10 games until the all star break. Projected to face 9 righties in that stretch.

Fowler leaves in the 1st inning tonight, in his MLB debut, after running into the wall on the 1st base line trying to get a foul ball. Has an open rupture of his patella tendon, season over, emergency surgery tonight. Was due to lead off the 2nd. Brutal.

I hope Kinsella got a lot of money for that tripe. Thing is, "Iowa Baseball Confederacy" was even kinda good. I never tried "Shoeless Joe" because the Costner Cryfest put me off his feed for good.

My Dad died a few years before the movie came out. You betcha I want to have another catch with him.

Oh I bawl like a Klansman at Obama's inauguration at that scene, too. But come on, it's an 11 on the Cinematic Maudlin Scale. And it's not even the most saccharine scene in the movie.

There are two things that save FOD. One is Mr. This Is CNN. The other is those nifty Sox unis. Bring back those f-ckers. They are beautiful.

James Earl Jones nailed the People Will Come speech. MLB had Vin Scully do it last year, but it just doesn't quite match JEJ.

The sad part is that at the time the buyout was a smart plan - the interest on the buyout was 8 percent annually and they had an investor who was making them 10 percent annually, so doing the buyout like they did and investing the net present value was a slam dunk.

The problem was that investor was named Bernie Madoff.
