2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

I am thoroughly impressed with FS-Wisconsin's coverage of the Brewers games, including field reporter Sophia Minnaert. With her being fluently bi-lingual, she's always able to converse with the players or their family in their native language. She just had a touching interview with Freddy Peralta's mom, who had flown in with family to watch her son pitch for the Sky Sox last night, only to be told that he was being called up to pitch today.

Coshun, though... blech. Rest of the crew is great. I also like Matt Lepay as the Interim BA.

The smile on Freddy Peralta's face when he came out of that game was outstanding.

I know it's early, but guess which team has the most wins in the NL? :)

They are definitely exciting.

I'm unsure if following Kato Kaelin on Twitter has been good for my sanity regarding this team. Every time I see him tweet about the team, it's how Counsell needs to be fired, how the pitching staff continually blows games, and everyone is useless.

I was genuinely surprised to see that they lead the division this past weekend.

you could've stopped that sentence after "sanity" ;) I do not understand people who only complain about sports. It must be pretty miserable to be them. :)

One of my favorite Brewer stories this year is Jeffress. What an amazing year after struggling in Texas. Also nice to see Johnny V. out of the doghouse.

If they keep this up, they'll be buyers at the deadline.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

I just hovered my cursor over the thread and it showed me the first post. The Brewers Opening Day roster from 2015. Only TWO of those guys are still Brewers (and then one left and came back).

3 (Nelson, Jeffress, Braun), but point taken. It's amazing how fast the turnover happened!

Jeffress is not "still" a Brewer. He was a Ranger, and now he's a Brewer again, which is why I specified that another one left and came back. :p

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

Sogard and Adrian Houser called up, Erik Kratz acquired from Yankees for PTBNL or cash. Jett Bandy DFAed, Lopez and Arcia sent to Colo Springs. Guess that's not TOO surprising, Arcia hasn't hit all year... but I am still a little surprised. I'm sure this is also related to Saladino's OPS. :)

Still in first place (although it really doesn't matter). Shutting out the Cubs two games in a row is certainly pleasant. ;)

Knebel still can't throw his curveball for a strike, but apparently it doesn't matter TOO much. :p

p.s. I finally had a Johnsonville brat. My official stance is it's a downgrade from Klements.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

How are we feeling about the Manny Machado rumors? (hello? anyone? :p)

I feel like it's not enough and maybe this isn't the "all-in" year, and then I remember... they have the best record in the National League (barely). And they've been up there for a while. So why not be all-in? I think I'm too used to focusing on potential for future years.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

I'm not thrilled about it. I don't hate it, just confused. I don't quite see what benefit adding Machado or Arenado would be.

I would rather the rotation/bullpen be shored up. I don't see a Verlander-esque piece coming to the Brewers, but maybe a #2/3 guy and a known reliever.

I get that the Brewers have Jimmy Nelson on the Clayton Kershaw plan of "Spring Training, shut him down for the summer, bring him back for the Playoffs," but is he really the lone missing piece?

Depends what you have to give back for Machado. Also, do you expect to resign him? And he's said he will only play SS going forward. Is that an issue for the crew?

I didn't think Arenado had enough service time to be a free agent after this year (but I love him, so I'd be up for that one).

The fifth starter spot has been no man's land this year, and I'd rather see that filled than get Machado too. I still feel like the weak spot is starting pitching. Junior Guerra has been good, but how's he going to do in the playoffs? And Anderson?

If the Brewers have to keep pitching Jacob Barnes, then the bullpen could still use some help.

I would not expect to, nor want, to re-sign him. I still think Arcia is still the shortstop of the future (the future being next year, assuming he figures out his offensive problems). But maybe that's not smart. Machado provides more offense, but he's a little older. Who is better defensively?

Ok, after that series, I now have one foot on the Machado wagon.

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

So Nelson won't be back until Sept. at the earliest and Suter is done for the year. How much do the Brewers give up to get help?

Re: 2017 Milwaukee Brewers, Back to Back Champions!

It's kinda amazing how this team has been projected to be about .500 most of the years in recent memory and then they vastly exceed that during the first half of the season only to regress to about .500. It'll be interesting to see if they can keep this up. It's especially impressive that they did it without Nelson.
