2016 World Junior Championship

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

This game is only half over too. I wonder how Canadian fans feel needing to take this team to OT yesterday?

I can't put TOO much stock into this. SUI have played their 4th in 5 days now, including their second game shorthanded due to suspensions and whatnot. Add into that a deflating SOL yesterday, who knows how much they had left in the tank.

I will say it's very good to see the USA dictating the game and having their way with the Swiss, as they should.

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

2 questions

1. If everything goes as it seems, who would be play in semis? Sweden again or #1 from other pool?

2. How do they determine pools each year?

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

Ralph, if you're reading this, is your record 13 from the Ottawa game in 05-06? We may be challenging that on this game.

Pools are determined from the previous year's placement. 1-4-5-8 in one pool, 2-3-6-7 in the other. I can't remember which gets the 9th team and which gets the promoted team. Don't know about the semis, though.

1) We'd play #1 from the other pool or #4 from our pool.

2) The pools are determined by final standings in the previous tournament.

One pool is 1,4,5,8,9
The other is 2,3,6,7,promoted team

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

Should anything be read into the fact that both teams that are done today, will be in the relegation round?

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

I really want to see this Tournament in Minnesota!

Is there a site with two rinks of the same size? It'd be awkward to have one on a NHL sheet and the other on Olympic. Possibly one pool at Mariucci and the other at NHC? But then when do you do the Gophers' tournament?

Or at the Xcel and Target Center. It can be on standard or Olympic size, doesn't matter.

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

Too bad this isn't the old format from the 2000s where two teams would be relegated; I would almost consider throwing the Denmark game and see Sweden put Canada into the relegation round. :p Of course, it would backfire and if Canada beat Sweden, we'd end up in the relegation round.

Didn't know whether there were two major NHL size rinks in the vicinity of MSP. Couldn't see one of each working; would think they'd have to be the same.

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

This year's rinks are 2 different sizes...one is x92 the other x100. So why does rink size matter?
If you were worried about rink sizes you could do Xcel and Ridder.

Fair enough, then. Would certainly provide quite the incentive to get placed right the previous year, that's for sure. Maybe that's why Finland's quarterfinal is guaranteed in a particular rink. Of course, during the WJC in Buffalo, US and Canada were ALWAYS in the *** Center, as Dwyer could not handle the capacity.

Makes sense. I would have thought rink size would be a hangup for the combination of Xcel and Mariucci too until I heard that tidbit about the two Finnish rinks being different sizes.

Re: 2016 World Junior Championship

Also of note, by the time this tournament would have happen, Maricucci is scheduled to be changed to 92' wide instead of the current 100' so it would be very similar to this year.
