2016 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp Roster Set

Re: 2016 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp Roster Set

I thought Canada owned most of the first period too, particularly if you deduct the powerplays.

Until the cavalcade of penalties it was all Canada in the first period. #7 was horrible the whole game. She couldn't send an accurate pass to a teammate. Twice the USA purposefully pulled the pick out of the O zone and regrouped when they just could have circled back in and attacked while holding the zone.

Stauber's non-goalie coaching credentials are SLIM pickings. No head coaching experience at all, just 2 years as an assistant coach on the national team. There's probably hundreds of candidates who are more qualified than him.

We go back to what the purpose of these couple of games is. Everyone got a chance to show what they can do. certainly his alma mater does not affect your opinion.

Schedule shows HockeyTV.com :
http://teamusa.usahockey.com/page/show/2957430-2016-team-usa-winter-champions-series

For $24.99 I think I'll pass (great way to boost interest in the women's game, eh?)

You can watch the hockeytv.com stream for free, you just have to register for an account. It's actually the exact same feed that's being shown on Hockey Canada's website, but hockeytv has a roku channel that's a much higher quality than I was getting chromecasting hockey canada's site.

I was wondering if Timothy was watching & what he thought of Canada on the 5 on 3. Seemed like they spent a full minute of the 1:40 2 man advantage with the D passing the puck back and forth. Grand total of 1 SOG.

Of minor interest to MN fans, the Canadian announcers are pronouncing 'Potomak' almost the same as we pronounce that river and town in Maryland
Pah-toe-MAK instead of POT-ah-mak

Canada ties it a 2-2 with a 6 on 5 goal with only seconds on the clock

Edit: well, nobody got tired in OT! 3-2 Canada, I think the ref threw the puck into the net instead of dropping it for the faceoff

His alma mater doesn't affect my opinion at all. My opinion is based on facts, that's why I mentioned his resume on the post. If he's the best the USA can do we're screwed.

Didn't see tonight's game, didn't realize the feed was free. The way the game ended anyway would have drove me back to the thinner.

So, who would you leave off the roster, and why? Which defensemen have underperformed?[Pfalzer and Stecklein. Pfalzer is at-8 in her 9 games....and Stecklein is also a -1 or so with the #2 team in the country. If you base your decisions on performance and finding the best "real" defensemen (meaning keep the puck out of the net not bringing the puck up to score then there should be others to consider. I also don't think a High schooler should jump over college girls if this is to prepare for the Olympics. You should be using your College pipeline first. Just my humble opinion.

Re: 2016 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp Roster Set

Curious...in last night's streamed US vs Can game did anyone else lack the option to expand to full screen?

Re: 2016 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp Roster Set

Blackbeard, thanks for that free link. I had no trouble expanding the view to full screen.

Re: 2016 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp Roster Set

So how does this work for girls in HS or College in 2017? Do they train at their colleges or do they skip a year to train with USA this year if invited? How many girls train with the USA team before the 20 roster cut?

What about Barns and Zumwinkle situation? Do they skip the 2017 season to train if invited? Then redshirt/skip in 2021 season? Their names will be around these boards for a long time then.

Re: 2016 USA Hockey Women's Winter Training Camp Roster Set

And tack on a redshirt injury and you get the Amanda Kessel 7 year college journey.....

I'm guessing you went to one of the state schools out east
surely an Ivy product ( or a product of one of the Ivy wanna bees) would have better reading and math skills
it would be a shame to think all that money your parents spent was wasted

To be fair to this poster, (somewhat of a new years resolution :)) this is what I was reading from the post. In the context of the question asked about Barnes and Zumwinkle, Pankowski was mentioned. Pankowski could very likely miss 2 years for Olympics plus play 4 years of college for a total of 6 years and if she would happen to have an injury during Olympics or college eligibility resulting in a redshirt injury year, you then could possibly have the "7 year experience". I don't think the poster is saying specifically Kessel's was a 7 year experience (as it actually was 6) but I think the potential addition of an injury redshirt is what defines it as the "Kessel" experience.

are you trying to become a spin doctor for the next election cycle?

a players eligibility doesn't start until they attend, so a player going from HS to the Olympic tryouts and/or team wouldn't need to red shirt unless they attend school fall or spring semester of the Olympic year
I don't believe Pankowski did, so if she is part of the Olympic team next year and red shirts as a consequence, she will only be a fifth year senior (but it will be 6 years after leaving HS), and if she were to miss her senior year because of injury, and play the next, it would be 6, not 7 years

Badger fans make a big deal out of Kessel returning to finish out her eligibility last year, it was all within the rules, but conveniently forget that both Pankowski and Desbiens played a year after HS before starting with the Badgers, not that I am saying there is anything wrong with that, but why is the Kessel situation somehow unfair and the Badger players situation fine and dandy?

I'll blame it on overthinking the thing and trying to keep a new year's resolution to be nicer to folks (even folks out east).

I am not aware of ARD playing a year after HS before coming to UW. Fill me in.
