Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

ToC... this is likely to be a massive trainwreck, but c'est la guerre.
Talansky
Drucker
Dombrowski

Barguil
Sagan
Gesink

Jacques-Maynes
Teklehaimanot
Zirbel

The ToC field is an intriguing one. A lot of teams have multiple guys who are all sort of even when it comes to climbing or sprinting. Tough to tell who the clear team leaders are in each discipline...which makes it tough to pick mid-range point guys with any degree of certainty, imo.

Viviani takes a surprisingly wild stage one of the Giro. A crash blew things up and AG2R was the big loser as Pozzovivo and Betancur lost over a minute. Some sprinters got stuck behind and never made it back, either. At the end, Modolo was in a good spot but got pinched against the wall and had to pull up, Hofland and Viviani got past Greipel due to it being just a tad uphill, and then Viviani got Hofland just before the line. Pretty fun overall, and a lot of great scenery as they rode a big chunk of the stage right along the coast.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

That was a nasty crash by Pozzivivo, didn't look like he was moving luckily they say his injuries are not life threatening. This usually only happens when I put him on my fantasy team. Matthew wins the sprint for the finish,, thought the break might stay away.

TOC hasn't had much action 2 sprint wins by Cav, Sagan almost beat him today/

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I will say this for the TOC that at least they've got moving pictures this year. So far anyway. We'll see about the mountains.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Yeah, at least Dr. Pozzo isn't dead. Tomorrow stage has a great design but I fear Oleg might command that T-S ride again. Or maybe Nieve won't go in a break again.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I only caught the very end yesterday and missed that crash. Just went to find video of it...yikes. Terrible. Article also said he's alert at this point but has facial and cranial fractures and no recollection of the crash. Man, not much makes me cringe but it hurt watching him go down like that. He ain't exactly my favorite rider but hopefully he recovers fully and has no permanent damage, cosmetic or otherwise.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

How do you not like the doctor? Anyway, I read where he plans to ride Suisse with ambitions.

Fun stage today! Little confused about some of the decision making though.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Both stages were awesome today, especially the Giro I don't really understand what Tinkoff is doing, it seemed as if they wasted Kreuzinger, with him in the break they should have done 0 work.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Awesome to see mountain goats like Alaphillippe and Sagan crushing the field in the ToC's Queen Stage!

I'm amazed I know there aren't a lot of top notch climbers there but I expected Hennao, Craddock, Dombrowski, Ten Dam and Geesink to put some time into them today. So it basically comes down to the intermediate and finish sprints tommorrow.

Did Bob Roll get the boot? I notice both Jens and Christian are there so this looks like their TDF team, though maybe Bobke will just do the preview show and enhanced coverage at night again for the Tour.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I don't think Bobke ever did the TOC. It was always Phil and paul, and then the dufe on the motorsickle, and after CVDV retired, they added him to the crew. He's gotten better, but he's still not good. I guess they added Jens just cause they couldn't imagine a TOC without him.

I'm sure Bobke will be there with his usual nonsense for the TDF.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I find it hilarious that Sagan is likely to finish in the top 10 on every stage of the race and is unlikely to win the points jersey.

It also amuses me that Voigt retires and P&P still find a way to kiss his butt for 2 hours a day.

And yeah, I'm sure Roll will be in at the Tour Dee France, unfortunately.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

By inches Sagan wins the TOC

Another good Giro stage but limited coverage by BEIN, I'm guessing due to soccer.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

I thought ToC was funny with all the various alliances that were revealed during the last stage. For the intermediate sprint, you had Oss leading out Sagan. And Sky constantly attacking, helping Etixx.

In the Giro, the live commentary made the stage seem super exciting, 80K from the end the peloton was down to about 30 riders, but then there was a motorcycle crash, a red flag, and that took some of the craziness out of the peloton. Still Uran Uran is weak and I think that Porte is not srtong either. Landa on the other hand is killing it.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

All I can hope for my fantasy team is that something happens to Aru and they make Landa their GC guy.

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Truly bizarre stage today. Porte punctures with like 5 K to go, as the peloton fails to catch the break. Then Porte loses like :47 sec. After the stage the jury enforces a rule that says riders from other teams can't give each other wheels (Clarke (OGE) had given Porte a wheel) and docks Porte 2 minutes.

So then. Aru v. Contador. The dream of the double is alive...

Re: 2015 USCHO Cycling Thread

Why should Clarke give Porte his wheel, other than they're both Aussies? Damm right Porte should get penalized for that crap.

Anyway, TOC. Gutsy, gutsy ride by Sagan up Mt. Baldy to stay close enough that he could take the overall by nipping Farrar at the line the next day. Great victory. Although at the finish of the mountain climb, I was really hoping the camera would get off of Sagan, cause I thought he was about to puke at any moment, and that wouldn't have made a very nice scene. Probably did off camera, I think maybe when he was leaning over that fence.

Back to the Giro, and on the fashion front, I kinda like Southeast's new kit. The former Neri Sottoli/Yellow Flow/Vini Fantini/Farnese Vini team's grey white and red kit is much better looking than the very dull all gray they were sporting during classics season.

And surprisingly for this Giro, Bardiani didn't add any pink to their regular kit, as they have in years past.
