Re: 2015 Off Season banter. New coaches, teams, players, etc. Have fun!

-The 23-game season was shelved for further discussion, and never approved. And I would imagine, if it passed, it would be with the amendment for 24 games sponsored by many top hockey schools (because their justification was "treat us the same as basketball", which is hard to argue against in thr DIII context). But my understanding is we will still have 25 for at least one more season.

-The ECAC-W won't have an autobid until 2017-2018.

-The addition of LVC, Stevenson, and Endicott MIGHT push us to a 12-team tournament, but there is no way we get a 16-team tournament. Access ratios have to be the same across all DIII sports, and right now that is 1/6.5 teams. If anything, with the push to limit costs by cutting a few game from the season, there have been further cost-cutting discussions that involved scrapping Pool C altogether. Win your conference or GTFO.

Re: 2015 Off Season banter. New coaches, teams, players, etc. Have fun!

I've heard it used in bowling and billiards and in baseball to "frame a pitch" - to make it appear to have passed through the strike zone, this is a first for me, but I guess it is used in place of inning

It's slang, not an official term. I believe it is derived from the scoreboards, especially the old manual ones, that had box after box to show the scoring per inning. Looks like picture frames.

SUNYACWRITER

Nice try - I'd redo it with a couple of changes
1. Remove the Saints from the ECAC-E
2. Form the Commonwealth Coast Conference

Then realign as necessary.

The big question is how will the A Autobid be decided
A) Tournament Champion
B) League Champion
C) Fishman'81:eek:

If Pool C goes away in all sports to save championship costs, I could imagine the call for, in some circles, for the elimination of conference tournaments to select the AQ. However, that would mean that a boatload of teams would have 0 NCAA chances around MLK Day and they'd be playing out the string. No, I think we'll still see conference tournaments to decide the Pool A bids. Some will do one and done while others will do multi game formats for each round.

Re: 2015 Off Season banter. New coaches, teams, players, etc. Have fun!

Okay ... I don't claim to be a statistician, but if the cost of living index in Middlebury VT is 119.60, wouldn't the cost of living be 19.6% greater than the national average NOT 15.7% ?? Or do these two groups not use the same set of metrics to measure cost of living??

Bad statistics. Two averages are being discussed here. They are the mean and the median. The value of 100 is the median, which represents the 50th percentile and because of a positive skew, the value of the mean will be greater than the value of median. Thus the mean cost of living will exceed 100. It is a pet peeve of mine that people always assume that "average" is a synonym for the arithmetic mean. An average is a value computed to represent a typical value from a data set. Frequently the mean is a less meaningful measure than the median because of its lack of resistance to skewing and extreme values.

Yes, refers to the similarity of the baseball scoreboard and a bowling score sheet.

What did they do, go to a cheap law school on graduation day, pick one, and offer him a job? What lawyer working for any company writes up the documents that they need to submit to court in order to provide a legal defense, show them to their employer to assure them that they've been submitted, and never submits them? Did he/she think they wouldn't get caught? That's the most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while. The FHL continues to be even more of a farce than the movie they were named after...
