2015-2016 Coaching Changes

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

Correct, and another common mistake it is Netherlands, not Holland. Holland is one of the provinces in The Netherlands.

it's not a mistake, aren't those 2 of the provinces almost entirely under sea level?

and isn't it about time ARM jump in hear to tell us to get back on topic?

Does this set off a bit of a chain reaction? Someone has to fill her spot - either Bellamy moves up or someone with more experience moves in at Harvard. And UMD will need some assistants.

Think Bellamy would be interested in following Crowell? Bellamy's from Duluth, isn't she?

Parenthetical about Bellamy: the year before Maschmeyer arrived, she played every second of the season in goal. Are there records showing how many goalers have done the same? I'll bet there are more than we might think

How dare you besmirch Jenny Potter. You should be sued for libel.
Well...truth be told, a big difference between my comment and those that were actually derogatory and unambiguously directed at Mrs. Potter.

Not surprising. What she did filling in for Coach Stone with a short roster last season was nothing short of remarkable. Congrats to her.

I don't think Bellamy moves up just yet. I think Katey will look for someone with experience and connections. Bellamy doesn't have that cred yet.

I hadn't considered that but yeah, why not? If she wants to go home, it makes sense and UMD wouldn't have to pay her that much which seems to be a consideration if you want to coach women's hockey at UMD.

Re: 2015-2016 Coaching Changes

I guess Duluth didn't have some unqualified guy on staff to take over like Brown did so they had to "settle" for a qualified, up and coming young woman who has paid her dues to get this opportunity. ;)

Can you imagine if the situation was reversed at Brown and they hired an unqualified woman to become the new men's team head coach?! There would be an outrage of unpredictable proportions. Didn't Digit Murphy try to become the men's coach at Brown a few years back? At least she was one of the most experienced women's coaches around at that time. I'd say she could have done as good a job as the current men's coach has done since he got the job.

Give Duluth credit for making a very good choice that makes sense to everyone in women's hockey. Give Brown a raspberry for making a choice of convenience that makes no sense to anyone in women's hockey.

Nice little jab at UMD there, but Crowell signed for $140K escalating to $170K over five years. That's a very competitive salary relative to what head coaches make around the country, and there's probably another $100K+ left for her two assistants.

Don't let the Shannon Miller story fool you. Coaches at UMD get paid.

Anyone know who the Brown candidates were?

Agreed. MSU HC was making about $90k and he was there for years. it will be interesting to see who they can attract with a less than stellar salary offer.

There has been a lot of scheiße talked about Potter on threads here and every time I have asked for details I have been ignored. I'd still like to know what her alleged sins are that are so great they make her radioactive as a coach. Seems more like people have a stick up their breezers about her than she has an actual problem or I would have expected someone to be able to articulate what it is.

I wasn't talking about Crowell. I was referring to Bellamy. And I doubt that her salary would approach six figures as an assistant.

Given that UMD hired Crowell and that she's been in the ECAC for a couple of years, one as a head coach, you would think Brown would have sought permission to speak to her. Right? I'm wondering the same thing. Who was on their short list? Did they even have one or was Kenneally the guy right from the start? I just think the timing of this puts Brown squarely in the crosshairs of those who are fighting for equal opportunity and equal pay for women. The Kennneally hiring is a big step back; I don't care that he knows the ins and outs of admissions and the curriculum. I feel certain that there are other coaches like Crowell who would have loved a shot to take over the Brown program and restore it to prominence. What Brown did was basically flip them off and show their lack of respect for women's hockey. Too bad considering that one of their finest athletes was a female hockey player, Tara Mounsey, who was also an Olympian.
