2015-16 New England Patriots

Re: 2015-16 New England Patriots

Dear Ghost,

The Raiders are the top seed due to the 4th tie breaker, Strength of Victory.

Definition: A part of the NFL's tiebreaking procedure, strength of victory is figured by calculating the combined winning percentage of the opponents a team has beaten

Dear Southie,

Strength of Victory is both strength and victory. ;)

Top seed is top seed. (OAK @ KC Thursday will be a problem.)

Signed

Also I'm going to go nuts if an important player like Amendola misses games because he gets hurt because they can't find a less critical player to who doesn't fumble punts. I could easily see them losing Amendola, which means they lose home field, which means that they don't make the SB. Just like last year, when Chris Freakin' Harper fumbles a punt, which (along with ridiculous losses to Philly and the Fins) costs them home field, which is a factor in not making it to a very winnable SB.

High ankle sprain for Amendola, he should be out for awhile if its like any other high ankle sprain

Re: 2015-16 New England Patriots

Pats need to rest Bennett if he's still gimpy because they need that big TE for their offense to function. Need Amendola for the playoffs as well but that looks likely given the nature of his injury. Regarding playoff seedings, I'm not too worried about going into Oakland to win a game or beating KC if that's the way it works. Just for the love of God no road games in Denver which is a possibility if we lose to them and one other game, while Denver runs the table.

The kicked ball by jones and the fumble by Slater almost gave the game away. That game should't have even been close, special teams sucked. The D was good though

Is that the same special teams that downed a punt on the 1, leading to a safety, and blocked a field goal?

Yep. No excuse for Jones, been doing it all year. On Slaters fumble one of the Ravens got his helmet squarely on the ball, not sure if anyone could have hung on to that.

The thing that was so infuriating to me was that they were playing well in all phases of the game against a good team that's been hot lately. This had the makings of a statement game. That single play changed it to a dogfight.

No idea what Jones was doing. He should have been doing what everybody else did -- run away from the ball. Might go back and look at Slater's play. Didn't he run it out of the end zone? Seems to me the best play in that circumstance -- other team just got an easy TD off a turnover, and Slater hasn't run back many kickoffs -- was to take a knee, and let the O start from the 25 and calm things down.

Re: 2015-16 New England Patriots

Cyrus Jones needs to be cut. What does it say to the rest of the team that a total fuk up continues to get 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th chances. Not only was the "fumble" bad enough, but then he was too lazy to look down and jump on the ball at the 1 yard line even though it was still loose. Sign some guy off the street and send him packing.

Don't blame Slater as much. I'm curious how many reps he's gotten in practice returning kicks. I'm guessing not many.

I feel bad for the kid. As a 2nd round pick I don't think he's he's going anywhere just yet.

I don't. Getting paid a lot of money to field kick offs. Not sure he does anything else (he was horrible in coverage the few times he played corner). If he can't make better decisions he's going to find out what having a real job is like sooner than he thinks.

Re: 2015-16 New England Patriots

Thanks, didn't have time to review my DVR. Pretty clear he had to return it. I'm not as inclined as you are to give him slack, though. Just can't fumble there, even if it means that you're going down sooner than you need to.
I was in bed at the end of the 3rd and saw the highlights this am. Didn't even see where he caught the ball that's why I went to look it up. You're taught to keep your legs moving and that's what he was doing. Didn't think I was giving slack, it was just hat on ball and ball usually pops out.

Re: 2015-16 New England Patriots

Hester just got released by Baltimore. Pats should pick him up and put Jones on the bench until he sorts it out.

Hester has been almost as bad as Jones. Fumbled 5 times, lost one. Been shaky all year. Time for him to hang 'em up.

I believe he's worse than Jones. Hester was more responsible than anyone for the safety Monday.

What I would do is put Edelman back there, with instructions that under no circumstances is he to do anything except (a) fair catch or (b) yell "Peter"* and run away from the ball as fast as possible.

*did anyone else hear the explanation why "Peter" is used as code for "don't touch the ball"?
