Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

I wonder if any other goalie has won a Game 7 recording only one save?

Re: 2014 Stanley Cup - Don't Toews me, man!!!

I want the rangers to beat the pens, and the blackhawks to make the cup finals only to lose to the B's. That way, the Bruins can win the cup by beating an original 6 team in every round. :D

Is there any other sport in this country that gets so worked up about which teams founded its top league? Original Six? So what, that just means you had less competition to rack up the Cups once upon a time.

Does anyone even know who they are in baseball? I can name some in each league, but not all. Too many name switches. It doesn't seem like anyone except the Reds gives any kind of weight to being an "original" team.

Especially when the "original 6" aren't even the first 6 teams.

I am really quite surprised by how much loyalty there still is in Connecticut to the Hartford Whalers (they moved to Carolina in 1997!). People still buy Whalers gear.

It worked well for Montreal, Toronto, and Detroit. The other three? Not so much.

So, did John Curry get playing time last night? I saw a bunch of tweets about him last night, especially how the announcers screwed up and said he was from the University of Minnesota. I didn't think he was on the playoff roster.

I don't know. I just learned that Pittsburgh was the Allegheny's in 1882.

He did not. I believe he is on the playoff roster as he is the third goalie. When Kuemper was pulled due to an earlier injury, I thought I heard Curry was on the bench. Did I mention I graduated from high school with his dad?

ETA: last night's roster shows him as a scratch.

I think Curry got dressed in case something happened to Bryz. While not on the roster, I believe he would have been allowed to play had something happened.

Correct, at least per CNBC's announcers last night. :)

And was it just me or was he the most nervous looking person in the building.

That was one of the all time "seeing-eye" passes--thru the skates of two Philly--to Carcillo for the tip in.
To be honest though, it was really lucky. Zuccarello makes some great passes but he just flung that one on his backhand and it happened to find Carcillo. The Rangers are going to need their top guys to start scoring if they're going to win another series or three.

Their merchandise is actually among the top sellers, if I'm not mistaken. Helps that it's a sharp logo.

The Minnesota Heat are the second-highest suggestion? OK, sure. I guess it is a list for bandwagons though.

The announcer? Nah, he looked fine. :p

I'll tell you who looked terrible: Me, when that realization hit: "OK -- down 1 -- Game 7 -- 8 minutes left in the game -- aaaaaaand we're switching goalies."

The New York Yankees started as the Baltimore Orioles for 2 seasons before moving to New York.
Likewise, the St. Louis Browns, who became the new Baltimore Orioles, played their first season in the AL as the Milwaukee Brewers.
