2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Mercyhurst Lakers vs. Clarkson Golden Knights

Re: 2014 NCAA Frozen Four: Mercyhurst Lakers vs. Clarkson Golden Knights

I've heard far better student announcers than this woman. I suspected she'd never played the game, she has so little to say. So I looked up to see her credentials. As I suspected she has none. It's only her second year....broadcasting women's basketball for Big Ten Network.
Unreal.

Here's more bad news. We have to listen to her do the championship game on Sunday. I'm going to watch with no audio.

Thought MU's speed, at least that which they deployed last Saturday, would cause problems for CU even though CU has more talent.

Apparently, not. Or it was not deployed.

A new flavour has been added to the Big Dance.

Too bad the NCAA didn't delegate again, as the quarterfinals announcers were light years better. Would far rather listen to Quinnipiac's usual play by play announcer who isn't bad at all (other than butchering names, which seems to be a required job qualification.)

If there's a bright side, at least she's impartial. The one-sided Crimson announcer regularly takes classless potshots at the opposition.

If I'm not mistaken, the last time there was an ECAC team in the final it went to Triple OT. That was also an Olympic year.

Hallelujah!

Clarkson historically has actually done fairly well in the ECAC versus speedier teams, and was also known to be fairly slow in relative terms--but big and with firepower. While speed is certainly helpful, it's not always the be-all-end-all. This year's team is much much faster.

Clarkson clearly proved they were the much better team today, even without Ambrose. It was great to see them make the required adjustments and pull together the last couple of weekends. Since it seems like Ambrose is rarely off the ice when healthy, it's especially gratifying to see other players really rise to the occasion when given that opportunity to fill the very big void. I've always admired Fast's abilities, so to see her not only play rock solid defence in a more prominent role, but to notch 2 goals also, was truly a delight.

Best of luck against Minnesota. You'll need it. ;)

One of the best games I have ever witnessed, if not thee best.

I remember sitting there and sincerely thinking when the first OT period ended that the best thing that they could do would be to turn out the lights and announce that the game was over...because there were no losers on the ice that day. I would have been happy to walk out of there under those circumstances because I had already gotten more than my money's worth and neither team would have to feel that they lost.

There was a surreal atmosphere in the place during those three OT periods...almost like a religious experience. Quite a memory...(and the game never became available from the NCAA as was discussed at length at the time on this forum).

Ridder was abuzz that day.

After watching that game I decided you go back and watch the Clarkson vs Union game of 2.22.14 for ****s and giggles. Kind of an interesting situation, Clarkson had to win that game "The trophy was there" and to their credit that Union team scared the crap out of them forcing a OT and winning 2-1 in OT. Pretty good game too!! Like they say in womens hockey "on any day"
ps: a really good game to watch!! shots on net 32-14

PA announcer, PA announcer! Pronounciation check on "Rattray" in Aisle 3.

The PA announcer was pretty bad all day long. He not only couldn't pronounce "Milica", he reversed her first and last names.

I'll be honest: I have no idea how good Clarkson was after watching that game because Mercyhurst was miserably bad. They were really lucky not to be down 3-0 six minutes into the game, as Clarkson deflections went just wide, bad rebounds eluded their sticks, and the Lakers couldn't get the puck out of their own zone. Mercyhurst looked a little better over the second half of the first period but that was about it for them.

After that they had trouble just keeping the puck on their sticks. They couldn't win a contested puck to save their lives and their passes would go one way while the player supposed to receive it went the other. I want to credit some of that to Clarkson, whose forecheck looked very good at times, but Mercyhurst made so many unforced errors that it was really hard to tell. It was one of the most lopsided 5-1 games I can remember.

Next year, we need to put some other team on the Beat Cornell detail.

I remember watching on line, Rougeau stepping out of the box and being smidgen too late to get a stick onto the shooters stick when the goal was scored. One of those moments. Despite having a lot of promise, with a young squad at the time, the Big Red never got back to the title game. :(

I've seen Clarkson play five times in the last month or so, and they have a deep squad depth wise. Like most teams, they can have an off game, but considering they they are missing one of their top players, should give them some credit for getting to the title game. After they lost Ambrose to injury and then got beat by Cornell the next day, did not think they would make it this far. So credit where credit is due. Other players have stepped up, and they play a strong team concept game. It will be a monumental task to beat the Gophers, but will be rooting for "Tech" to win on Sunday.

Given what is coming back to Cambridge, pretty good bet it might be the Crimson.

If you can sync up the video with the Clarkson audio feed, I think our radio announcer is one of the best I've heard. He's clearly going to favor Clarkson but, all things considered, I've always found him to be very impartial with his play-by-play.

The reason she was late is that she started toward her bench when she came out of the penalty box instead of going directly to her D-zone.

That sounds like a plan. I won't mind a Clarky flavor in this one. :D

Tx for that additional info. That would not have been apparent on the Video Feed that was focused on the ongoing PP.

Only if they get them in the tournament.

Not following your logic. Havard and Cornell are both in the ECAC, if Harvard beats Cornell, they are more likely to be the higher seed. Then this years scenario would repeat, with Harvard and Cornell swapped in the tourney slots.

Mercyhurst has been paired versus Cornell in back-to-back NCAAs. The Lakers have played a strong quarterfinal to beat the Big Red, but have then bonked in the semi. So Eeyore is saying some other team should get that duty next year, so it is hard to predict that it will be Harvard. It has nothing to do with the ECAC tourney.
