2014 Inaugural Big Ten Hockey Tournament 3/20 - 3/22

Re: 2014 Inaugural Big Ten Hockey Tournament 3/20 - 3/22

It's been 35 years since Minnesota won one without recruiting in North Dakota. :)

Correct but if you look back if you don't recruit Minnesota you don't win national championships. ;)

Too bad tOSU and UW set hockey back 20 years with that horribly boring championship game.

Hopefully Minny will play Michigan next year and save hockey.

Having no dog in this race, nor did I need one team to win over the other, I really enjoyed that. OT is always fun. Congrats to both teams!

Congrats on reaching the final, ohio.

At least you have a team who gives a ****. More than I can say about the majority of mine right now.

That was a nice Thursday crowd tonight at the XCel. Lack of crowds notwithstanding, that tourney had everything you could ask for on the ice.

That game was nuts! (Ha...get it? Nuts? Okay.)

Since about halfway through the season, I've said tOSU is underrated, and seeing them beat Wisconsin in Madison was disappointing, but not too surprising. We all saw what they did this weekend.

The difference in fatigue was noticeable in the third period onwards.

Indeed.

Very entertaining game all the way through. Congrats to both teams.

To the extent that made any difference in the outcome, it was an advantage the Badgers earned by having a better regular season.

As I said in the Buckeye thread, tonight we saw a veteran Badger team that knows to win. Not having to play on Thursday may have made some difference. But keep a strong class together for 4 years and good things happen.

Maybe that factor will work in the Buckeyes' favor a year from now.

Re: 2014 Inaugural Big Ten Hockey Tournament 3/20 - 3/22

I felt we did look tired late in the game. Not able to beat the Badgers to the puck along the boards or take them physically off the puck. When you let a team like Wisconsin cycle the puck around unopposed in your zone it does not bode well.

This stood out to me. During the third period and OT, the Badgers were able to maintain possession for long stretches, and they often turned into pretty good scoring chances. As I said in the Wisconsin thread, most of what would normally be 50-50 battles/races for the puck were won by Wisconsin.

They had no legs left especially after Wisconsin tied the game.

Yeah, no kidding. Hey, great game by both teams last night. I was thrilled to have the television to myself. I was flipping between four or five college hockey championship games all evening. Good luck onward, Badgers. That is, until our men do to your men what our women did to yours.:o
