2014 Inaugural Big Ten Hockey Tournament 3/20 - 3/22

Re: 2014 Inaugural Big Ten Hockey Tournament 3/20 - 3/22

I think I posted this before on one of your threads- but I started playing hockey in fall of '73, at French Field House.
I'm a little confused here as the French Field House is a track and field building only. Do you mean the ice rink perhaps? It is in the same complex as the French Field House with St.John Arena separating the two. The rink has never been named for anyone and is only known at the Ohio State University Ice Rink. It was built in 1961 and we were club hockey only until the 1963 season.

I'm not sure- I'm actually quoting that from my parents, since I just asked when I started playing. All I personally remember is playing at one rink on campus, where the lockers were just off of the lobby. (this was 40 years ago, so my memory isn't that great). Seems like all the time I played was the same rink. I did mites and school at OSU as a kid. Squirts were at a small rink on the edge of Westerville, which isn't there anymore. Then we moved.

oops- sorry about the tangetd on the B1G tournament thread.... :)

?? Which one is just loud? I think they are all really good. Heck, OSU should have saketed a pre game script Ohio Saturday night.

WI is just loud. And they usually have a pretty good drummer. I haven't seen them in a while I admit, but that was their thing the several times I did see them. Loud with a good drummer doesn't make for a good band. Take away the one drummer and what's left? The elaborate dances the students do make people think the band is better than they really are because they aren't paying attention to the actual music.

Yes, I am still bitter (obviously) because I had a few run ins back in my day as a member of the MN band.

Makes sense. At least the B1G schools have bands. I got a lot of flack from Denver and CC fans when is suggested they get bands instead of that piped in stuff. Great venues to watch hockey, but neither felt very collegiate.

Definitely agree. Even NHL games just aren't the same experience. I know it's completely different, but IMHO college games are a more fun atmosphere and the connection to the team is on a different level. That's one reason I haven't been to a Wild game in a while. Always pick Gopher games first.

I strongly disagree. Maybe if you're hearing them from a distance in an echoey hockey arena, it's different. I've heard them play some pretty good stuff, and the spring concert last year was phenomenal. I guess I'm just a happier person becausae I enjoyed all the bands that showed up. (Though that happiness was balanced out by my distaste for Pitbull.) If I had to pick the worst, it would be Michigan's band. Not because of their ability, but because they played the exact same thing over and over.

I will admit, WI band > no band. And I'm sure they were good at their concert. Can't see myself attending a WI band concert though. Just my opinion which has been greatly influenced by outside factors and personal conviction of "better dead than red". But if that's how you judge bands, does that make MI Tech's band the worst?

I've never encountered the MTU band in person, but from what I've seen, I think they're awesome. (I feel the same way about the Stanford band.) And to be clear, I like Michigan's band.

My only point was MTU's band are pretty famous for playing the same thing over and over and over. I think the difference is they know what they are doing. MI doesn't seem to think people can hear enough of "Victors".

With Michigan, I'm fine with "The Victors," but I think the "duh! Duh! Duh! DaaDAH! duh Duh! Duh! (dada) daaDAH! duh Duh! Duh! daaDAH! DAH DAH DAH! (badahdadeedah) DAH DAH DAH! (Let's go blue!)" thing was a bit too frequent.

So long as no band ever plays that Gomer Packers bit, "duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, duh, GO! PACK! GO!" the band experience will be fine. :D

Re: 2014 Inaugural Big Ten Hockey Tournament 3/20 - 3/22

Wait a second....did you see that first meeting against Michigan?

Talk about a back and forth game...:p

But seriously, if you were there, even though you didn't like the outcome, you witnessed history. That number of goals will never be approached.
Oh, the 21-0 game? We obviously don't talk much about that one here. LOL!
Our guys for the most part chased the Michigan players up & down the ice the whole time. The thing is since it was our very first season as a NCAA team, one year out of being club hockey we were a pretty raw bunch while Michigan was loaded with NHL prospects and you guys also won the National Championship that season as well if I recall.
